What is Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin?
Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin is a hospital network, not a standalone weight loss clinic. It is a partnership between Froedtert ThedaCare and the Medical College of Wisconsin, with hospitals in Milwaukee, Menomonee Falls, West Bend, Mequon, New Berlin, Oak Creek, Pewaukee and Pleasant Prairie. Weight care is one program inside the network, the Medical Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery Program, and the clinic does not name a single address for it or say which sites offer it.
Its listed weight care services are diagnostics, nutrition adjustment, behavioral therapy, weight loss medications, weight management clinics, bariatric surgery, and clinical trials and research. The endocrinologists named for the program are Srividya Kidambi, MD, MS, and Lisa Morselli, MD, PhD. An endocrinologist does the first evaluation and keeps overseeing treatment, and an advanced practice nurse follows patients between visits.
It describes medications such as appetite suppressants but does not name a specific weight loss medication. A blog post is titled "New GLP-1 Weight Loss Solutions Program Offered," but the weight loss information does not explain what that program includes.
This listing is for its West Allis office at 11211 W Lincoln Ave.
What does it cost?
It does not publish prices for weight care, and it does not publish a consultation fee. It does not say whether any fee includes medication, or whether it accepts insurance. On insurance, it says: "We encourage you to check with your health insurance plan to see what coverage your plan provides for treating obesity." Treatment is described as running one to three years, so the total over that span matters more than the first visit.
Its virtual care is listed separately. An on-demand video visit costs $49, and scheduled video visits are also offered. Those visits are described for common conditions like flu, colds, rashes and bladder infections. The clinic does not say whether weight loss visits are offered by video.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask who writes the prescription, and whether the nurse can change your medication plan without the endocrinologist. Ask whether a monthly fee would include medication, and whether the medication is brand-name or compounded. Ask what the first evaluation, blood tests, saliva tests, X-rays, dietitian visits and follow-up cost, since none of these are priced. Ask whether your plan covers obesity treatment here and whether the clinic takes it. If surgery is a possibility, ask whether your visits will count toward the three to six months of supervised weight loss that it says some insurers require before approving surgery. Ask whether weight care can be done by video, and how to cancel. The weight loss appointment line is 877-770-LOSE.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want medication-based weight care run by endocrinologists inside an academic hospital network, and you are ready to get prices in writing before you book. If you want a posted price, a monthly cash membership or a practice built mainly around weight loss, this is not that kind of clinic.
