About The RETREAT

What is The RETREAT?

The RETREAT is a physician-run medical spa at 3515 US Route 60 in Huntington, WV. Dermatologist Amy Vaughan, M.D., and plastic surgeon Ben Moosavi, M.D., own and operate it. Most of what it offers is aesthetic and spa work: injectables, laser and body treatments, microneedling, microblading, massage and a day spa. The prescribers it lists are Amy Vaughan, M.D., Ben Moosavi, M.D., Denise Russell, FNP, Katie Davis, FNP, Shannon Gibson, RN, Bailey Lowe, RN and Teri Steele, LPN.

It also runs a provider supervised medical weight loss program using semaglutide or tirzepatide, each given as a once a week injection, and it offers BioTE Medical bioidentical hormone replacement therapy for women and men. Both weight loss drugs are FDA approved for adults looking to lose weight. After a consultation, you inject one pre-drawn syringe at home each week. The first visit includes lab work, weight documentation and a BMI calculation, and the medication takes around 2 days to arrive. Hormone pellets go under the skin in the office, with two to four insertions a year. In its own words: "At your appointment, you will fill out a simple health assessment and schedule bloodwork to evaluate your current hormone levels." It does not offer peptide therapy or longevity medicine. On Google it has a 4.9 rating from 163 reviews. It is open Tuesday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, and every other Saturday, 9am to 12pm.

What does it cost?

It does not publish prices for weight loss or hormone therapy. It does not say whether medication is included in any price, and it does not state a consultation fee. The only prices it lists are two add-ons: 10 Zofran for $25 to take home, and a probiotic for $35. Its payment options are the Allē Payment Plan and the Cherry Payment Plan. It does not say whether it takes insurance. Its Membership Savings Program offers discounts on injectables and other treatments, but it does not list a membership fee.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask who signs the weight loss prescription and who reviews hormone bloodwork, since it does not say which prescriber handles which program. Ask whether the medication is part of the program price or billed on top, and whether it is brand-name or compounded. Ask what the initial lab work, the 30 day follow up and the pellet bloodwork cost, and whether a consultation fee applies.

Ask whether the take-home Zofran and probiotic are included or extra. Ask how the Allē or Cherry plan works and whether it carries interest. Ask how to cancel, and whether you owe anything if you stop between pellet visits or partway through a weight loss program. Finally, ask whether any visits can be done by video, since telehealth is not stated.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want weight loss injections or hormone pellet therapy from a clinic run by physicians that also does day spa and aesthetic work, and you are willing to get the medication, follow up and lab costs in writing before you book. If you are looking for peptide therapy or longevity medicine, it does not offer either, so it is not the right call.
