About South Sound Preventive Medicine
What is South Sound Preventive Medicine?
South Sound Preventive Medicine is a medical practice at 3425 Ensign Rd. NE, Suite 340, in Olympia, Washington. It describes itself as a practice devoted entirely to weight loss and Obesity Medicine, and it serves patients in Lacey, Tumwater, Tacoma, Puyallup, Centralia, Shelton, Federal Way and surrounding areas. Angela Zechmann, MD, is the prescribing physician. Michelle Warner, ARNP, is an associate who may see you at your first visit.
Its medication options are semaglutide, Ozempic, Wegovy, tirzepatide, Mounjaro, Zepbound and phentermine. Other services include diabetes care, weight loss maintenance, body composition analysis, SculpSure (a non-invasive laser treatment for stubborn fat in the abdomen and flanks) and the RIM Process, an emotional release method run by Michael Kline, who lives in Sarasota, Florida. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Google shows a 4.8 rating from 70 reviews.
What does it cost?
It is cash pay only. In its own words: "Our clinic does not accept insurance, primarily because most insurance plans do not cover weight loss."
A new patient pays a non-refundable $250 deposit when booking. The first visit is $330 and includes an EKG, a body composition scan, labs and the visit, with $15 to $50 more for medication. Monthly follow-up visits are $93 plus the cost of medication, so the monthly fee does not include the drug. A body composition scan after the first two visits costs $25 when needed. It does not publish a price for the medication itself, membership terms or cancellation terms.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask who writes each prescription, Dr. Zechmann or Michelle Warner, ARNP. Ask whether the medication is a brand-name product or compounded, and whether it is dispensed from the office or filled at a pharmacy. Ask for the total monthly cost with medication included, since the $93 fee leaves it out.
Ask whether follow-up visits can be done by telehealth, because it does not say. Ask what lab work and EKGs cost after the first visit. Ask what happens to the deposit if you cancel, how long the program runs and how you end it. Ask how long the practice has been open, since that is not stated either. If SculpSure or RIM interests you, ask for those prices, because no SculpSure price is given.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want a physician-led medical weight loss program with in-person visits in Olympia, and you can pay cash every month on top of medication costs. If your main interest is SculpSure or RIM, get those prices in writing before you book.
