About Bay Medical Care
What is Bay Medical Care?
Bay Medical Care is an internal medicine practice at 4010 Maury Pl, Suite 8B, Alexandria, VA 22309, on Richmond Highway. The phone number is (703) 665-0508. It is also listed in Mt. Vernon, Virginia. Primary medical care is its core service, and medical weight loss is its other main program. It accepts several insurance plans for primary care, including Aetna, CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare and Medicaid, but it does not bill insurance for the weight loss program. Hours are Monday to Thursday 10:00AM to 6:00PM, Friday 3:00PM to 7:00PM, and Saturday 10:00AM to 3:00PM. It takes walk-ins and offers evening and weekend appointments.
The weight loss program is physician supervised and is for adults 18 and older with a BMI of 30 or more. Its program is supervised by Board Certified Physicians, but it does not name the physician who writes prescriptions. It also does not say how many years it has been open. The program includes a physician evaluation, blood tests, nutrition and lifestyle education, a meal plan, and FDA approved appetite medications. It names Wegovy, Ozempic, Zepbound, Mounjaro, Qsymia, Contrave and Phentermine, and it offers vitamin B12 and other vitamin injections. Google lists the clinic at 4.6 from 56 reviews.
What does it cost?
The first visit is $165.00. The first visit is described as covering the physician consult, lab tests, a diet and meal plan, an exercise plan, a B12 injection, and an appetite suppressant prescription if needed. Follow-up visits are priced by how often you come in: $40 a visit every week, $65 every two weeks, $90 every three weeks, or $115 every four weeks. After the first visit, monthly phone check-ins cost $70 each. Patients on a medication like Wegovy or Zepbound can choose phone visits only. Prices are effective through May 31, 2026, and may change without notice.
The program price does not include medication. Generic appetite suppressants can cost as little as $30 a month, and brand-name medications cost more, but it does not publish prices for those brand-name drugs. In its own words: "Please note that our weight loss program is self-pay and we do not bill insurance directly for our program services, but you can typically use your insurance coverage for the prescribed medication at your local pharmacy." It accepts cash and major credit cards. It describes no contracts to sign. It does not say whether HSA cards or financing are accepted, or what happens if you cancel.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask which physician reviews and signs your prescription, and whether you will see that same doctor at each visit. Ask whether any repeat lab work costs extra beyond the first visit. Ask whether the medication you are prescribed is a brand-name drug or a compounded product, and what it will cost each month at your pharmacy. Ask whether your insurance covers that medication and what the office needs from you for prior authorization. Ask how cancellation works and whether prepaid visits are refundable. Ask whether telehealth is available in your state, since phone follow-up is offered only after the first in-person visit. Ask how long the practice has been open, and ask for current program outcomes, because the outcome examples shown date from 2012.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you are an adult with a BMI of 30 or more, you want an in-person physician visit in Alexandria, and you can pay cash for the program while filling your prescription through your own pharmacy and insurance. It is a weaker fit if you need the prescribing doctor named before you book, or if you expect insurance to pay for the program visits themselves.
