About MD Diet

What is MD Diet?

MD Diet Weight Loss & Nutrition is a medical weight loss clinic with offices in Salt Lake City and Orem, Utah. Weight loss is what it mainly does. Its menu also lists Botox, Juvederm and laser hair removal, which are cosmetic services and not weight loss care.

The weight loss menu covers medical weight loss plans, a program it calls the MD diet, an HCG diet, a keto diet, vitamin injections and weight loss medications. The injectable medications it names are semaglutide, tirzepatide and Saxenda. It also offers pills: phentermine, Contrave, Lomaira and diethylpropion. Clients come in weekly for a weigh-in and see a doctor or nurse practitioner once a month for an updated bio-analysis. Its team is described as physicians, nurse practitioners and nutritionists, but no one who prescribes is named. It has been helping patients for more than 40 years in California and 22 years in Salt Lake City. It has a 4.5 rating on Google from 126 reviews.

This listing is for its South Salt Lake office at 3655 S State St.

What does it cost?

The New Patient Program is a one-time payment of $175, and the fee is non-refundable. That fee covers a first appointment with the nurse practitioner, a one-on-one nutrition session, four weekly vitamin B complex injections, a bioanalysis and weigh-in, an initial blood draw and weekly coaching. The first appointment lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours and is offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

It does not publish a monthly price for weight loss medication. It does not say whether medication is included in the $175, whether insurance is accepted, or whether there is a separate consultation fee. On membership, it says: "Our monthly fees are affordable, and we never ask you to sign a contract or commit to a long-term obligation." It gives no monthly fee amount. Cancellations need at least 48 hours' notice. Less notice than that costs $40.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask who writes the prescription. The clinic names no prescriber, so get a name and credentials before you pay. Medications are prescribed only when the medical provider judges them appropriate, so ask what happens at your first visit if a medication is not prescribed, and whether the $175 still applies.

Ask whether the monthly fee includes the medication and what the medication costs each month. Ask whether it is the brand-name product or a compounded version, and which pharmacy supplies it. Ask what follow-up visits and lab work cost after the initial blood draw. Ask whether insurance is billed or whether everything is cash, and whether any visits happen by video. Ask which office you would attend, since the clinic lists two.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want in-person medical weight loss with nutrition coaching in Salt Lake City or Orem, and you are comfortable paying a $175 program fee before you know the monthly cost of any medication. If you need insurance billing, video visits, or a named prescriber before you pay, get those answers first.
