About Pinkston Medical & Wellness Clinic

What is Pinkston Medical & Wellness Clinic?

Pinkston Medical & Wellness Clinic is a family practice and integrative medicine clinic at 10865 Shaenfield Rd, Suite 1101, in San Antonio, TX 78254. Its main work is primary care: family care and physicals, disease management for conditions such as thyroid problems, diabetes, cholesterol and hypertension, women's and men's health screening, and EKGs. Weight loss, bio-identical hormone pellet therapy and peptides are also among its services.

Marianne Pinkston, MD, is the medical director. Ryan Wencl, APRN, is the nurse practitioner who provides most of the day-to-day care, with Dr. Pinkston overseeing it. Dr. Pinkston has practiced in the San Antonio community for over 25 years and reports seeing over 40,000 patients in San Antonio and Helotes. The clinic offers telemedicine appointments. Google lists it at 3.8 from 30 reviews. The phone number is 210.698.7825. One limit: it no longer writes controlled substance prescriptions and refers those patients to a specialist.

What does it cost?

It does not publish prices for weight loss or hormone therapy. For its semaglutide and tirzepatide program, the only pricing instruction is to email for more information and pricing. It does not say whether medication is included in that program. Payment plans and HSA, FSA and Care Credit are accepted for it. Medical weight loss programs carry separate fees outside insurance in most cases.

Pellet therapy is not covered by insurance. The clinic describes its cost as $2 to $3 a day, which is a daily figure with no total for a full course.

For visits, the clinic states: "We offer Telemedicine appointments IF insurance offer coverage otherwise appointments are $150 baseline fee." Standard office visit fees are not published. The clinic accepts almost all insurances. No cancellation or commitment terms are published for the weight loss program.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask who signs the prescription for any weight loss medication and who manages it afterward. Ask whether the program fee includes the medication and the injections. Ask whether the drug is a brand name like Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro, or a compounded version from the pharmacy the program works with, and how that changes the price. Ask what visits, labs and follow-up cost on top of the program fee. Ask how cancellation works and how much notice is required.

For pellet therapy, ask for the full cost of the insertion visit, labs and follow-up, and how often pellets are replaced. Ask which of your services your plan covers. Insurance may list the clinic as MPMD rather than Pinkston Medical and Wellness, so give your plan that name when you call.

Confirm the ZIP code, since the address appears as both 78254 and 78230. Monday's afternoon hours are printed with a typo, and walk-in lab hours differ from office hours, so confirm both by phone at 210.698.7825. For emergencies, the clinic directs patients to 911 or an emergency room. It takes calls and texts at 210-846-8920 for urgent matters only, around the clock, but refills, appointments and medication management are not handled after hours.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want family practice care in San Antonio, with weight loss or pellet therapy in the same practice, and you are ready to pay cash for the programs insurance does not cover. Get the medication, visit and cancellation terms in writing before you pay. It is not the right place if you need a controlled substance prescription, since the clinic no longer writes those.
