What is IV Recovery & Weight Loss Center?
IV Recovery & Weight Loss Center is mainly an IV and wellness practice that also offers medically supervised weight loss treatment. It is part of the Dr. Mego Emmanuel Clinics group, which has offices in McAllen and Alton, Texas. The IV center itself is in McAllen and serves the Rio Grande Valley. It has a Google rating of 5 from 6 reviews.
Its services are IV therapy, weight loss treatment, NAD+ injections, hyperhidrosis Botox, and women's sexual health. Of the four kinds of care you might be considering, it covers weight loss and NAD+ treatment. Hormone therapy and peptide therapy are not among its services.
The weight loss program names two medications, semaglutide and tirzepatide. Dr. Agustin B. Mego, M.D., is a family medicine physician with over 20 years of practice in the Rio Grande Valley. The other prescribers listed are Ruben Rocha, NP, Cynthia Rodriguez, PA, Everika Martinez, NP, Crisela Pate, NP, Jazmin Alaniz, FNP-C, and Tania Fabian, PA-C. IV infusions are given by licensed vocational nurses.
This listing is for its McAllen office at 3601 Buddy Owens Blvd Ste 160.
What does it cost?
It does not publish prices for weight loss treatment, and it does not say whether medication is included in any price. The prices it does list are for memberships. The 3-month membership is $129 a month and the 1-year membership is $119 a month, each including one IV therapy a month and one free booster. The Student Membership is $79 a month with a 6 Month IV Purchase Minimum. Members also get 10% off weight loss injections on the 3-month plan and 20% off on the 1-year plan.
The NAD+ package saves $400 over three months. In its own words: "Must Pre-Pay to receive discounted price." New patients get 15% off their first infusion, and established patients get 25% off every infusion. The first consultation is free. Cancellation terms are not given.
On insurance, it accepts a wide range of providers. For weight loss specifically, in its own words: "Coverage varies by plan."
What should you ask before you book?
Ask who signs the weight loss prescription. The clinic does not name a weight loss prescriber, so you will want to know whether it is Dr. Mego or one of the nurse practitioners or physician assistants.
Ask whether the medication is brand-name or compounded. The weight loss program is described as compounded, yet GLP-1 medications are also called FDA-approved. Ask how the drug is sourced and what you would actually receive.
Ask whether your monthly fee covers the medication, the visits, the follow-up, and the lab work. If any of those are extra, ask what each one costs. Ask whether telehealth visits are available, since the clinic does not say.
Ask how a prepaid membership is cancelled and what happens to unused months. Ask whether any part of the weight loss program is covered by your insurance, because the clinic does not answer that either.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want IV therapy or a membership and may add weight loss treatment later, and you are willing to get the prescriber, the medication, and the total monthly cost in writing before you pay. It is a weaker fit if you need a published price for weight loss before your first visit.
