About Spruce MD
What is Spruce MD?
Spruce MD is an integrative medical practice at 1000 Laurens Rd Suite B, Greenville, SC 29607. The phone number is (864) 979-2441. It runs as a cash-pay direct primary care clinic and describes itself as functional medicine. Its prescribers are Dr. Blankenship, MD, Dr. Shiffman, MD and Cynthia Bosell, NP.
Its six services are primary care, integrative medicine, nutrition, aesthetics, weight management and sports performance testing. Semaglutide is the only medication named across those services. The weight program begins with an assessment by a registered dietitian and a nurse practitioner, and that assessment decides whether you are a candidate for semaglutide or need other testing first. Its integrative doctors can also see patients virtually, and its providers hold medical licenses in South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida and Virginia. Google lists it as a medical clinic with a 4.9 rating from 141 reviews.
What does it cost?
The Weight Management Program starts at $399 a month for a 6-month program. That price includes the semaglutide medication, dietitian and nurse practitioner visits, initial labs and monthly InBody body composition checks. In its own words: "Cost may increase if dose of medication increases." Pricing will also differ if semaglutide is not recommended for you.
Membership prices are less settled. Its plan listings show monthly membership prices of $199, $225 and $275, so confirm which figure applies. The VIP Membership is priced on inquiry. The one-time Spruce MD Assessment is listed at $749 in one place and $899 in another. A new patient registered dietitian visit is listed at $185 and, elsewhere, $199. Customized lab tests cost extra, and it does not publish a consultation fee.
It does not accept insurance. HSA and FSA dollars can go toward services, and a superbill can be requested for you to submit to your insurer, though the clinic cannot guarantee insurance will count it toward your deductible. On month-to-month memberships you can cancel at any time by emailing its Patient Coordinators, but a final payment equal to one month's fee is charged as a cancellation fee, and your access ends that day. Annual memberships are non-refundable.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask who writes the semaglutide prescription, whether it is one of the two doctors or the nurse practitioner. Ask whether the $399 monthly price holds if your dose goes up, and what the new figure would be. Ask whether the medication is brand-name or compounded, since it does not say. Ask what follow-up labs cost, and whether any MRT food sensitivity testing would be added, since both are listed as possible extras. Ask which monthly membership price applies, and what happens to the 6-month program if you stop partway through. Finally, ask for the clinic hours and whether a consultation fee applies, since neither is published.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want a cash-pay practice where a registered dietitian, a nurse practitioner and a physician work on one weight plan, and you are comfortable paying monthly with no insurance billing. It is a harder fit if you need one fixed price in writing before you start, because its listed figures for memberships and visits differ from one listing to another.
