About The IV Center – Pittsburgh, PA
What is The IV Center, Pittsburgh?
The IV Center is mainly an IV drip and intramuscular shot business. Linda Slagel, a registered nurse, opened the Pittsburgh center in May 2019. Weight loss is one of its services. Its weight loss page offers semaglutide, tirzepatide and sermorelin, and it presents sermorelin for muscle building and recovery as well as weight loss.
The weight loss program runs partly by telehealth. Patients book online, complete consent forms and a medical history, and have vitals and labs taken by nurses either in clinic or at home. For semaglutide, a vial is shipped to the patient's home once labs are reviewed. In its own words: "Each treatment involves subcutaneous injections, which can be easily done at home after receiving training and guidance from our team."
It does not name the clinician who prescribes its weight loss medications, or the medical director its intake survey refers to. Its footer disclaimer names the company as DripZar, LLC and states that it is not a medical facility. Google rates it 5 from 19 reviews and lists it as a weight loss service.
What does it cost?
Semaglutide is $449 per month, plus a $40 telehealth consult. Tirzepatide is $549 per month, plus the same $40 consult. Sermorelin is $379 per month, plus a $40 telehealth consult. For semaglutide and tirzepatide, $65 is kept for virtual consult and lab fees if a patient is not approved. For sermorelin, $65 is kept for the virtual consult.
It does not say whether the monthly price includes the medication. It lists 50% off what it calls Metabolism Boosters when a patient orders all three weight loss peptides, with no terms given. It does not publish membership or cancellation terms for the weight loss program. It does not accept insurance, and it takes cash, credit cards and some FSA and HSA cards.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask who writes the prescription, and what that person's name and credentials are. Ask for the medical director's name too. Ask whether the monthly price includes the medication, and whether the medication is brand-name or compounded, since it does not say. Ask what labs, check-ins and the three-month telehealth review cost on top of the monthly fee, and whether the $40 consult is charged once or every month.
Ask which office a visit would be at, because its pages name Pittsburgh, Shaler, Murrysville and Monroeville. Finally, ask how to cancel, and how much of the fee comes back if you are not approved.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you already want its IV or shot services and are looking at the weight loss program as an add-on, and you can get the prescriber's name and the medication terms in writing before you pay. If you need a named prescribing clinician on record before you commit to anything, hold off on booking until you have one.
