What is Physicians Weight Control?
Physicians Weight Control is a medical weight loss practice with offices in Media, King of Prussia, Allentown, Pottstown, Bristol, Kennett Square and Lancaster, all in Pennsylvania. It says it has worked in weight loss for over 24 years, but it also mentions 20 years of helping patients, so ask when the practice opened. It says its physicians are M.D.s or D.O.s, but it does not name the doctor who would prescribe for you. Google shows a 4.5 rating from 60 reviews.
Its four services are a diet program, Laser Lipo, GLP medication (semaglutide) and Strawberry Body Contouring, which uses the Strawberry Laser. The clinic names phentermine, phentermine hydrochloride, diethylpropion and phendimetrazine as its appetite suppressants.
This listing is for its Harleysville office at 1715 Sumneytown Pike #102.
What does it cost?
The clinic does not publish a price for GLP medication, and it does not say whether medication is included in diet program fees. Diet programs run from $90 for one week to $330 for ten weeks. The New Patient package is $260 and covers an initialization fee, a first visit with 1 week of medication and a second visit with 4 weeks of medication.
Laser Lipo is $350 for a single treatment or $175 for an initial treatment. Packages run from $1,800 for 8 treatments to $5,320 for 38. Paid-in-full packages include one free treatment, though CareCredit and PayPal purchases do not qualify. Laser treatments can be financed through CareCredit at 12 month interest free.
Whether insurance covers its services is up to your insurer, and the practice will provide documents so you can seek reimbursement. There are no contracts, and you can leave at any time without fees. The fasting blood test required before GLP has a cost the clinic does not state.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask who will sign your prescription and whether that physician sees you at every visit. Ask whether the diet or GLP fee includes the medication, and whether semaglutide is brand-name or compounded. Ask what follow-up visits and lab work cost.
If you are a new patient, the GLP page requires 5 weeks of phentermine before semaglutide when the two are paired, so ask whether GLP alone is available to you. Ask whether any visit can be done by telehealth, and what hours each office keeps, since none are listed.
In its own words: "The decision to prescribe and dispense medication and proceed with the GLP program rests with the physicians' discretion." Ask what that means for your case before you pay for blood work. Also ask how a refund works if a physician decides medication is not necessary, and how to cancel.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you are ready to pay cash, can complete a fasting blood test first, and want in-person physician visits at one of its Pennsylvania offices. It is a weaker match if you need a fixed monthly price or a named prescriber before you book.
