About Oregon Weight and Wellness

What is Oregon Weight and Wellness?

Oregon Weight and Wellness is a cash-pay practice focused on obesity medicine, at 1557 Talbot Road SE in Jefferson, Oregon. Its prescriber is Dr. Julie Gilbert, MD, the clinic medical director, who is board certified in obesity medicine. She moved to the Salem area in 1995 and practiced family medicine at WVP-Keizer for over 20 years before starting this practice. The team also includes health coaches Rachelle Mathios and Meghan Handy, nutritional therapist and yoga teacher Melissa Hedstrom, and social worker Stephanie Husk. In its own words: "Dr. Gilbert will learn your history, assess your current health, and work with you to create a personalized treatment plan."

The main services are an initial consultation and a monthly program with physician visits every 5 weeks, weekly yoga, a weekly group connect, and email and text support. Dr. Gilbert may prescribe weight loss medications for a short period as one tool alongside nutrition and activity. It does not name the medications it uses. Its Google listing shows a 5 rating from 3 reviews.

What does it cost?

The initial consultation is listed at $300 and $250 (New Patient Pricing), so ask which figure applies to you. The monthly program is listed at $225 and $200 a month (New Patient Pricing). The Wellness Ways upgrade adds $200 a month for either 3 or 1 health coaching sessions a month, plus the weekly book group. It does not say whether the program price includes medication.

It is not affiliated with any insurance providers, so visits are paid out of pocket. It accepts cash, credit, debit, FSA and HSA payments, says most FSA or HSA plans cover its services, and can provide a superbill for reimbursement. The program is meant to run for a year and then as needed once an R3 plan is in place, though the FAQ also mentions a six month self pay program. It does not publish cancellation terms.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask whether the monthly fee covers any medication, and if one is prescribed, what it costs each month. Ask which medications Dr. Gilbert uses, whether they are brand-name or compounded, and which pharmacy fills them. The FAQ says labs are drawn if none were done in the last 3 months and an EKG is done if medication is being considered, so ask what those cost. Ask whether monthly visits are required while on medication and whether they are in the price.

Ask whether the program is one year or six months, and how cancellation and refunds work. It does not list office hours or say whether telehealth visits are offered, so ask both. If you are asking for a teenager, the FAQ says adolescents over age 11 with a BMI over the 95th percentile are treated, but it does not say whether the program is open to them beyond that rule.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want a physician-led weight loss program, can pay the full fee yourself, and want the coaching, group and yoga support that come with it. If you need insurance billing or a clear medication price before you commit, call first and get those answers in writing.
