About Velani Medical Aesthetics
What is Velani Medical Aesthetics?
Velani Medical Aesthetics is a medical aesthetics practice that Google lists as a medical spa. Jesi McMahan and Maryann Elias run it. Their About page describes them as family nurse practitioners with more than 35 years of combined nursing experience, and as sisters-in-law who moved into aesthetic and wellness medicine after years of bedside nursing. It has a 5 rating on Google from 67 reviews.
Its core services are neuromodulators (Botox, Jeuveau and Xeomin), dermal fillers, microneedling, and IV therapy and injections, including B12, glutathione, NAD+ and vitamin D. The fourth service is a medically assisted weight loss program built on a GLP-1 or GLP-1/GIP medication. It does not name the specific medication, and it does not list hormone or peptide therapy. The first weight loss visit is in person. It takes bookings through online scheduling. It does not publish a street address, phone number or hours, and it does not name the town or service area it serves.
What does it cost?
The weight loss program starts with medication at $160 for 12 weeks, plus a $175 monthly membership fee. The medication is billed on top of the membership. A $100 consultation fee is required. In its own words: "This will be credited toward the total cost of your program upon enrollment."
Neuromodulators run $14 per unit for Botox and $12 per unit for Jeuveau or Xeomin. Dermal fillers are $675 to $710 per 1mL syringe. Microneedling is $250 for the face or $350 for the face, neck and décolleté, and $450 or $550 with VAMP or PRF. Injections start at $35, and IV therapy starts at $100. B12 is $35, glutathione and vitamin D are $45 each, and NAD+ is $300 for a 14-day at-home course.
It does not say whether it accepts insurance. It does not publish cancellation terms for the monthly membership.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask which of the two nurse practitioners reviews your labs and signs the prescription. The weight loss program requires CBC, CMP, lipid panel, HbA1c and TSH results from the last 12 months, or the clinic can order them. Ask what those labs cost if you need them drawn there, and what follow-up lab work costs after that.
Ask which GLP-1 or GLP-1/GIP medication you would receive, and whether it is brand-name or compounded. Ask what the $160 starting medication price covers, and whether the $175 membership includes visits between injections.
Ask how the membership is cancelled and whether there is a minimum commitment. Ask whether follow-up visits can be done by telehealth, since that is not described. Ask for the street address and phone number, since neither is published.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want cosmetic injectables, fillers or microneedling from nurse practitioners you can meet in person, or a cash-pay weight loss program, and you are comfortable asking about the medication, labs and cancellation terms before you book. Fillers are for people aged 22 and older, and the weight loss program requires a BMI greater than 25. For the weight loss program, you will give yourself a weekly injection at home: "This program consists of a weekly subcutanous injection you will give yourself at home."
