About OhioHealth

What is OhioHealth?

OhioHealth is a health system with hospitals and physician practices across central Ohio. Weight management is one of its services, and it has two paths. The medical path is non-surgical. The surgical path is bariatric surgery. In its own words: "Explore a non-surgical weight loss program built around your health, goals and lifestyle."

The medical path combines nutrition guidance, behavior change support, exercise recommendations and weight loss medications, with the GLP-1 medications named as the medication option. The team decides whether those medications fit each patient. The surgical path lists revision surgery, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, SADI-S and sleeve gastrectomy. Its bariatric program is accredited by MBSAQIP, and procedures are performed at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital.

The medical program has enrollment locations in Columbus, Delaware and Westerville. Google lists OhioHealth at 3.7 from 19 reviews. OhioHealth does not name a prescriber for its weight management program.

This listing is for its Columbus office at 3773 Olentangy River Rd.

What does it cost?

OhioHealth does not publish prices for weight management. It does not state a consultation fee, whether medication is included, or whether insurance is accepted for the program.

It does offer a general price estimator through its MyChart account, and you can use it as a guest, though you will need to enter your insurance details each time. Estimates are built around your insurance coverage. OhioHealth does not say whether weight management visits are covered by the tool. For help with it, call (614) 566-8707. Hospital price lists are also downloadable, including one for Riverside Methodist Hospital, but the system notes those rates may not match what you pay.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask who prescribes the medication and whether you will see that same person at follow-up visits. Ask whether medication is part of the program fee or billed on top, which GLP-1 drug the program uses, and whether it is brand-name or compounded.

Ask what follow-up visits and lab work cost, whether any part of the program is done by telehealth, and whether insurance covers any of it or whether it is cash pay. Ask whether there is a membership or contract, and how cancellation works.

To start, call (614) 566-2700, or complete the new patient packet and email it or fax it to (614) 566-6776. The team then contacts you to schedule an enrollment visit.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want either a non-surgical plan or a surgical one from the same hospital system, and you are willing to ask about prescribers and prices before you enroll. It may not suit you if you need a published price or a named prescriber before you pick up the phone.
