About IndyCare

What is IndyCare?

IndyCare is a clinic at 1706 S. Cannon Blvd, Suite 101, Kannapolis, NC 28083, phone (704) 933-2273. Its main work is urgent care and primary care, with same-day visits in clinic, curbside or by telehealth. Medical weight loss is one of its services, alongside pediatric care for ages 2 and older, labs and diagnostics, employer health services and a Spanish clinic. Google lists it as an urgent care center, with 4.9 stars from 2,607 reviews.

The weight loss program serves Kannapolis, Concord and Charlotte, NC. Dr. Joshua Dobstaff is named as the medical director and is the only prescriber named. No credentials are published for him. In its own words: "The membership includes access to compounded GLP-1 medications (semaglutide, tirzepatide), lab testing, consultations, coaching and ongoing support."

What does it cost?

The initial consultation is $200. It includes a one-hour visit and a baseline lab panel, and the $200 is credited toward the first month's program fee if you join. Two monthly figures appear, $30 to $50 and $299, but IndyCare does not say which is the program fee and which is the medication. Medication is billed separately from the monthly membership fee. The monthly fee covers provider visits, follow-up labs and medication management. Membership requires a 5 month commitment. It does not publish cancellation terms.

IndyCare accepts most major insurance plans and is in network with them, but it excludes several plans, including some Aetna, Ambetter, BCBS-NC and Medicare Advantage plans. It does not say whether insurance pays for the weight loss program. For patients without insurance, self-pay is $159 for an urgent care visit and $119 for a general office visit.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask who signs your prescription and what credentials that person holds, since none are published for Dr. Dobstaff. Ask whether the medication is brand name or compounded. IndyCare says brand name options exist and that its compounded medication comes from an FDA-inspected compounding pharmacy, so ask what each option costs. Ask for the all-in monthly total, medication included.

Ask what "weekly administration of your medication" involves and whether it means weekly visits to the Kannapolis office. Ask what follow-up labs cost, since outside lab tests run $10 to $30 each for self-pay patients. Ask how cancellation works during the 5 month commitment, and whether the $200 is refunded if you decide not to join. If any part of the program will be by video, ask which states telehealth covers, because none are named.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you live in or near Kannapolis, Concord or Charlotte, want medical weight loss from a clinic that also handles urgent care and primary care, and can commit to 5 months once you have the monthly and medication totals in writing. If you need a program with no minimum commitment, or you want the prescriber's credentials before you pay, get those answers first.
