About ProactIV Hydration & Wellness

What is ProactIV Hydration & Wellness?

ProactIV Hydration & Wellness is mainly an IV drip and vitamin injection clinic. Its IV bags start at $80 for a 1 liter bag. It also offers a medical weight loss program built on GLP-1 injections, plus NAD+ Therapy and Phlebotomy. It has offices in Hendersonville and Brevard, North Carolina, and says it offers mobile services to much of western North Carolina. Google lists it as a medical spa, with a rating of 5 from 226 reviews.

The GLP-1 program uses semaglutide and tirzepatide. Amanda Crowley, FNP-C, NP, is the nurse practitioner named for GLP-1 consultations, and Maryclaire O'Neill, DO, is the medical director. Jen Schulz, BSN, RN, is listed among the clinic's prescribers, and she and Dr. O'Neill are the owners. Injections are given weekly in the clinic, and no appointment is needed for them. Before you start, you need baseline labs dated within the past 3 months: a complete metabolic panel, TSH, hemoglobin A1C, lipase, and a lipid panel. The clinic can draw them in-house.

What does it cost?

The initial consultation is $250, or $175 if you do not need labs. That price includes the nurse practitioner visit, labs if needed, and the first injection. Semaglutide is listed at $65 to $105 per dose, and tirzepatide at $90 to $140 per dose, depending on strength. It does not say whether those dose prices include the medication itself, so ask.

The GLP VIP package is $500 a month for 4 injections and 1 GLIP drip, with the consultation and labs included. It carries a 3-month minimum commitment. The GLIP drip is also sold on its own for $189.

The clinic does not take insurance. In its own words: "Therefore, we unfortunately do not take insurance." Its services are eligible for HSA and FSA funds.

What should you ask before you book?

Who writes and reviews each prescription? Amanda Crowley is named for GLP-1 consultations and Maryclaire O'Neill as medical director, but no one publishes who signs each dose.

Is the medication brand-name or compounded? The clinic states where its medications come from, but that does not tell you which kind of product you will receive.

Does the dose price cover the medication, and what does each weekly visit cost on top of it? Ask for the full cost of one month before you commit.

What do follow-up labs cost, and how often are they repeated? Only the first set of labs is described, and later ones are not.

Does the $500 VIP package require the GLIP drip, and what happens if you stop during the 3-month minimum? Cancellation terms are not stated.

Is any part of care available by video? The visits described are weekly and in person, with no virtual visits mentioned.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you can get to the Hendersonville or Brevard location, you are ready to pay cash, and you can come in for an injection every week. It is a weaker fit if you need insurance billing or care that is delivered by video.
