What is The Medical Spa?
The Medical Spa is a medical spa at 530 South New Hope Rd, Suite 4, in Gastonia, NC 28054. Its phone number is 704-884-2179. It describes itself as specializing in aesthetics, laser, wellness and weight loss, and most of its listed services are aesthetic: facials, dermaplaning, Hydrafacial, laser hair removal, ResurFX, Botox, Juvederm, Radiesse, Kybella and CoolSculpting. Weight management sits under its wellness services, alongside male testosterone therapy, peptides and nutritional injections.
Dr. David Thomas, MD, is the only prescriber named. Each patient receives a medical evaluation from one of the clinic's Board-Certified Health Care Professionals. The weight loss medications it names are phentermine, phendimetrazine, topiramate, metformin and semaglutide. It has an in-house pharmacy that can dispense medications at the visit, and a consulting pharmacist who works with the weight loss team. A program starts with a body composition analysis using InBody, and a metabolic study is offered but not required. In its own words: "The Medical Spa develops customized weight loss programs tailored to the individual needs of the patient." Google shows a 4.4 rating from 128 reviews, under the category weight loss service.
What does it cost?
It does not publish prices for weight loss, hormone therapy or peptides. Nothing it publishes says whether medication is included in any fee, and no consultation fee is listed. It does not say whether it accepts insurance.
The payment and cancellation terms are clearer. It offers Buy Now, Pay Later financing through Stripe and Allē Payment Plans. To book, you place a credit card on file. That card is not charged at booking, but it is charged for a no-show or a last-minute cancellation. Cancellations must be made 24 hours before your appointment time. A late cancellation or missed appointment brings a $50 charge to the card on file. It also links to a refund policy, so read that before you pay anything.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask who signs your prescription, and whether Dr. David Thomas, MD, will see you himself. Ask who performs your first medical evaluation, since the clinic names only Dr. Thomas as a prescriber and does not list other credentials.
Ask whether the program fee includes the medication or bills it separately. Ask whether each medication is brand-name or compounded, because that is not stated. Ask what follow-up visits, repeat body composition scans and lab work cost. Some of its vitamin injections need a baseline level before treatment starts, so ask whether bloodwork comes first and what it costs. Ask whether telehealth is offered, what its hours are, and whether it takes insurance. Ask for the refund policy in writing.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want weight management and aesthetic treatments in one place and you are comfortable paying out of pocket without a published price in front of you. It is a weaker fit if you need the full cost, including whether medication is part of it, in writing before you book.
