What is Helia Health?

Helia Health is a menopause practice at 9624 Bailey Road Suite 285, Cornelius, NC 28031. The phone number is (704) 702-6023. It is open by appointment only. Patients can be seen in person in Cornelius or by telehealth from anywhere in North Carolina.

Its four listed services are Menopause, Metabolic Support, Preventative Care and Executive Care. Menopause is the center of the practice. Helia prescribes hormone therapy and describes it as a large part of its work, including FDA-approved forms of what it calls bio-identical hormones. It does not prescribe injectable hormones or hormone pellets. Prescription weight loss medications are offered when medically indicated, through a structured program led by a nurse navigator.

Dr. Ariel Haddad, DO, FACOG is a board-certified OB/GYN and the practice's founder, with over 15 years of experience. Dr. Jamie Vlasic, DNP, WHNP-BC is a women's health nurse practitioner who also prescribes. Julia Thompson, RN coordinates prescriptions, lab testing and other orders between provider visits. Madison Hollenbach RN, the metabolic health nurse navigator, works with patients on weight loss medications, including injection teaching and body composition monitoring.

What does it cost?

Helia runs on annual memberships. Its visits are out of network, and "we regretfully do not accept insurance." The Helia Membership starts at $2,800 in year one and $1,800 at each annual renewal. The Executive Membership starts at $4,000 in year one and $3,200 at renewal. Neither price says whether prescriptions are included. Helia does not publish a consultation fee, a per-visit price or a price for its weight loss program. It says visit fees are set with reference to FAIR Health's consumer cost information.

Helia can provide superbills for possible out-of-network reimbursement. HSA and FSA funds may be used depending on your plan. Labs and prescriptions are processed through insurance as usual.

Cancellation fees are $100 for a nurse visit or follow-up cancelled less than 72 hours ahead. A new patient consultation cancelled less than 72 hours ahead costs the full consultation fee. If it is cancelled more than 72 hours ahead after the nurse visit, the patient pays 50% of the fee. No-shows count as late cancellations, and fees go to the payment method on file. It does not say how a membership is ended during its term.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask who writes each prescription and who handles refills between visits. Ask whether the membership fee includes any medication. Since prescriptions run through insurance, ask what you would pay for them if your plan does not cover them.

For weight loss, ask which medications are offered, whether they are brand-name or compounded, and what the program costs on top of membership. For hormone therapy, ask the same brand-name or compounded question about the forms prescribed.

Ask what follow-up visits and lab work cost, and whether the home or workplace lab draws in the Executive Membership are included in the fee. Ask how to end a membership and whether any part of the fee is refundable. If you live outside North Carolina, ask where you would go for care, since telehealth is limited to patients in the state. Also ask where you would get breast and pelvic exams, because Helia does not perform annual gyn exams and will refer you locally if you need a provider.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want menopause-focused care, you live in North Carolina or can travel to Cornelius, and you can pay an annual membership and visit costs yourself. It is less of a fit if you need injectable hormones or pellets, which it does not prescribe, or if you need a practice that bills your insurance directly for visits.
