What is Updesign Primary Care?
Updesign Primary Care is a cash-pay practice run by Tina Chee, MD, FACP, who is board certified in internal medicine. Its main business is direct primary care, where patients pay a monthly membership in place of insurance billing. It has offices in Syracuse and Manlius and sees patients by telemedicine across New York State. It also offers a Healthy Living & Weight Loss Program and menopause hormone replacement therapy.
The weight loss program pairs one-on-one sessions with Dr. Chee and virtual small groups of three to five people. The initial assessment includes a review of weight loss medication options, and Contrave, Qsymia, Wegovy and Zepbound are among the medications named. The menopause program lists pills, patches, creams and injections as hormone options. Its Google listing shows a 4.8 rating from 35 reviews.
This listing is for its Syracuse office at 812 State Fair Blvd Ste 2A.
What does it cost?
Primary care membership is quoted two ways. One place shows $100 to $175 a month, while another says "starting at $90/month." Members get office visits, telemedicine, calls and messages. Members pay no copays or deductibles. The clinic does not bill insurance except Federal Medicare Part B.
The Quick Start weight program costs $1800 paid once, or six payments of $300. DPC members pay $1200 once, or six payments of $200. That covers the assessment, follow-up visits and twelve group sessions, but not medication. The Accelerate and Maintenance phases cost $95 a month, or $55 for members.
Menopause care is included for DPC members. Non-members see a Moonrise package at $950 over five months, with $100 and $80 monthly figures for later phases. The clinic does not publish a separate consultation fee, so ask about it before you book.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask whether the $95 monthly fee includes any medication, since the program price does not include it. Ask what the medication costs and whether it is brand-name or compounded. In its own words: "We do not do compounding or pellet therapy." Ask whether that applies to weight loss medication as well.
Ask which membership price applies to you, $100 to $175 or the $90 starting price. Ask how the $950 Moonrise package fits with the $100 and $80 monthly figures. Ask what follow-up visits, lab work and medication cost outside membership, since none of that is listed.
Membership requires 30 days written notice to cancel, and email is acceptable. Ask how to cancel the weight loss program. The clinic does not publish office hours, and it does not list peptide or longevity services, so ask directly if you want either.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want a physician who sees you directly for a monthly fee and you are comfortable paying out of pocket for care your insurance does not cover. It is also a match for people who want a group-based weight program or menopause care without compounding or pellet therapy. It is less of a match if you need insurance to pay for your visits.
