About New York Comprehensive Medical Care

What is NYCMC?

NYCMC is a multi-specialty practice with offices in Smithtown, Bohemia, Mineola, Westbury and Stony Brook, all on Long Island. Its main business is medical care across internal medicine, cardiology, nephrology, rheumatology, family medicine, pain management and adult gerontology. Medical weight loss is one service among those. Dr. Adalbert Pilip, MD, founded the practice. He is board certified in internal medicine and cardiology, and the practice is affiliated with Catholic Health.

Its providers are Dr. Adalbert Pilip, MD, Dr. Lanzone, MD, Dr. Kamal Nayyar, Dr. Patrik Schmidt, MD, Tatyana Belimova, FNP, Oksana Boldyrev, FNP-BC, Felicia Henderson, FNP-BC and Tracey Lenzi, NP. No credential is given for Dr. Nayyar.

The weight-loss program names semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) as its GLP-1 options. Alongside them it offers nutrition plans, metabolic and hormone evaluation, lab work drawn on site and scheduled recheck visits. Its own line for the program reads: "Weight loss run by your doctor, not an app." The practice shows a 4.5 rating from 280 Google reviews. It does not state whether it offers telehealth or how many years it has been open.

What does it cost?

It does not publish prices, a consultation fee, or whether any price includes medication. It accepts all insurance plans except straight Medicaid. Whether a plan covers the weight-loss medication is a separate question. The practice says coverage varies widely between plans and asks patients to call (631) 656-9040 so it can check both before the first visit.

If a plan does not cover the branded drug, the practice says a compounded formulation from a licensed compounding pharmacy may be an option. It also notes that compounded medications are not FDA-approved. It does not say whether the first visit, lab work, EKG or follow-up visits are billed separately.

What should you ask before you book?

Start with the office. The weight-loss program is named at two offices in one place and at three in another, and Westbury is not named for it at all. Ask which office you would be seen at. Ask about hours too. Weekday hours at Smithtown run 7:00 am to 6:00 pm in one section, but the weight-loss section gives 8:00 am to 2:15 pm.

Then ask about money. Ask whether any program price includes medication, and whether your plan covers the branded drug or only a compounded one. Ask what the first visit, lab work, EKG and each follow-up cost, and how to stop or cancel. Ask whether telehealth is offered, since it is not stated. Finally, ask which clinician writes weight-loss prescriptions. The practice says its physicians handle these visits but does not name one for the program.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want weight-loss care from a practice that also handles heart, kidney or rheumatology care, and you can get to one of its Long Island offices during its hours. It is a harder fit if you need a published price, telehealth or a clear medication cost before you commit, since none of those is given.
