What is Sperling Dermatology?

Sperling Dermatology is a dermatology and cosmetic practice at 222 Columbia Turnpike in Florham Park, New Jersey. Dr. Shari Sperling, a board-certified dermatologist, leads the practice and is the one prescriber named for its weight program. The medical side treats conditions such as acne, warts, cold sores and skin cancer. The cosmetic side offers Botox, fillers, CoolSculpting, HydraFacial and chemical peels. Weight management is one service among many.

The weight program is called "Body by Sperling, Powered by Semaglutide." It uses prescription medication with semaglutide as the active ingredient. The program describes a once-weekly injection that patients give at home after guidance from the team, with the team available for questions along the way.

What does it cost?

It does not publish a monthly price for the weight program. The one figure given is a $150 consultation. In its own words: "This $150 consultation fee will be credited toward your first month’s medication if you choose to proceed." Its FAQ also says: "Our program pricing includes the consultation and medication costs." That sentence gives no dollar amount. It says the full breakdown, including any insurance considerations, comes at the consultation.

It does not say whether it accepts insurance. It does not describe membership terms, financing or a cancellation policy.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask which product you would receive. It says it uses medications from compounding pharmacies, and its program page also names Wegovy, an FDA-approved medication with semaglutide as its active ingredient. Ask whether the medication is brand-name Wegovy or compounded, and which pharmacy makes it.

Ask for the monthly figure, and whether it covers the medication, follow-up visits and lab work. Ask whether the $150 credit applies only if you start the program. Ask whether any part of the care is billed to insurance, and whether follow-up can happen by phone or video, since it does not say. Ask how you cancel and whether there is a minimum number of months. Ask who writes the prescription and who you speak to between visits. Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you are an adult aged 25 or older who wants to lose 15 or more pounds, has found other methods less effective, and is comfortable getting written answers on the medication and the monthly price before you pay anything.
