About Sierra Integrative Medical Center
What is Sierra Integrative Medical Center?
Sierra Integrative Medical Center is a freestanding outpatient clinic at 521 Hammill Ln., Reno, NV 89511. Its focus is chronic and hard-to-diagnose conditions, including Lyme disease, chronic fatigue, chronic pain and toxicity. It was founded in 1983 under the name Century Wellness Center and has used its current name since 2003. Google lists it at 4.4 from 24 reviews.
Two people are named as prescribers: Dr. Bruce Fong, D.O., H.M.D., the founding medical director, and Sammy Valera, R.N., A.P.H.
Weight loss appears once, in a list of services. In its own words: "A wide range of specialized highly confidential treatments, including weight loss, pain management, drug detox and alcohol detox are available." No weight loss medication is named, and no weight loss program is described. The other listed treatments are IV therapy, High Dose Vitamin C, a Detox Protocol, Immune Boosting Peptides and Glyoxal "Oxygen Shots." Hormone therapy is not among them.
What does it cost?
The initial consultation is $550. That fee covers an interview, a history, a physical examination and an electro-diagnostic screening. Lab tests cost extra, from $200.00 to $2,500.00. Consultation and lab fees are due at the end of the first day, and treatment fees are due every Friday during the treatment phase.
It does not publish prices for weight loss, hormones or peptides, and it does not say whether medication is included in any price. The length and cost of a treatment plan are set only after lab results are reviewed. It is cash pay only and does not accept insurance, and it has opted out of Medicare. It does provide receipts you can submit to your insurer for services that may be covered. No membership fee or cancellation terms are described.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask which prescriber would sign a prescription for you, and whether a weight loss plan would include any medication at all. If it does, ask its name and whether it is brand-name or compounded, since neither is stated. Ask whether any price includes the medication, and what you would pay in total over a treatment. Ask whether the Detox Protocol includes chelation, which is described as part of its heavy metal detox. Finally, ask what lab work and follow-up will cost after the first day, what the peptides are and how they are dosed, and how to cancel once a plan starts.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you can spend 3 to 5 days in Reno at the start, can pay cash for the consultation, labs and treatment, and want an integrative approach to a chronic condition. It is a weaker fit if your main goal is a weight loss program with a named medication and a published price, since neither is shown before the consultation. Dr. Fong can answer questions by phone or Zoom, but treatment requires visiting Reno, because the treatments need continuous monitoring by staff.
