About Garcia Family Medicine

What is Garcia Family Medicine?

Garcia Family Medicine is a direct primary care practice at 801 NW St. Mary Dr Ste 209 in Blue Springs, Missouri. Its main business is membership primary care, where you pay a monthly fee instead of billing insurance for each visit. Medical weight management is one of its services, along with CoreLift at $199 a session, DOT physicals, mental health care and counseling, independent medical evaluations, wellness coaching, and opioid-free pain management. Patient visits run Wednesday to Friday from 11 AM to 6 PM and Saturday from 12 PM to 5 PM. Tuesday is for administrative calls only. The practice has a 4.6 Google rating from 43 reviews.

Dr. Theresa "Tess" Garcia, MD, FAAFP, DABOM, is the physician who prescribes. She has over 20 years of medical experience. Her practice describes her as a board-certified obesity medicine physician: "Board-certified Obesity Medicine physician, not just a prescriber." Gigi Garcia, the practice manager and wellness coach, meets new weight program patients first and then passes them to Dr. Garcia. Medication is tirzepatide or semaglutide, when medically appropriate.

What does it cost?

The membership is $99 a month. The weight management program is $299 a month in total, which is the $99 membership plus $200 for weight management. That covers physician counseling every other week, an individualized 6, 12, or 18 month plan, nutrition and movement education, coaching, and two B12 injections a month. The one-time $200 initial physician consultation is separate.

Medication is not included in the $299, and neither are labs or supplements. Medication is priced at a pharmacy partner's wholesale rate, and current GLP-1 prices are not published. A $149 first month is offered as a limited-time deal, but its terms are unclear next to the $299 program.

The practice is cash pay and does not say whether insurance covers the weight program. Some patients get the medication covered through their insurance pharmacy benefit. Membership cancellation requires 30 days notice, with no long-term contracts and no penalties.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask for the full monthly cost including the medication you would be prescribed, since the $299 leaves it out. Ask whether that medication is brand-name or compounded, because the practice does not say which it uses. Ask what the $149 first month covers and what you will pay at your first visit. The practice describes that first $200 charge two different ways, so confirm which one applies.

Ask what the labs cost and whether you must finish them before your first coaching visit. Ask whether you must stay in the $99 membership to keep receiving prescriptions, since the doctor requires a membership before prescribing. Ask how often you will see Dr. Garcia in person, since virtual visits are kept to a minimum and weight visits are every other week.

Ask whether your insurance would cover the program or only the medication. Ask what the 30-day notice applies to if you stop the weight program but keep the membership. Ask what history would lead the doctor to decline you, since she reviews each person individually.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you are paying cash, want primary care and a physician-led weight program under one roof, and can come in person every other week during weekday or Saturday hours. If your plan has to cover the program or the medication, get that answer in writing before you book.
