About Wise Weight MD

What is Wise Weight MD?

Wise Weight MD is a medical weight management practice at 2172 Hemmeter Road in Saginaw, 48603. Dr. Dafina Allen runs the practice and prescribes. She holds obesity board certification from the American Board of Obesity Medicine, and she completed a family medicine residency. In its own words: "every patient works directly with Dr. Dafina Allen."

The practice offers six services: customized meal plans, FDA approved anti-obesity medication, tools for people on the go, the Diabetes Prevention Program, a body composition scan, and group visits led by Dr. Allen. It does not name the weight-loss medication it prescribes. Visits can happen in person at the Hemmeter Road office by scheduled appointment, or virtually. It also sees children and teens for weight management and offers a free informational session to start. Google reviewers rate it 4.6 from 7 reviews. The phone number is 989-558-0773.

What does it cost?

The membership is $399 a month with a four-month minimum, and six-month enrollment saves $200. Medication is not included. Medication costs are separate and depend on your insurance and pharmacy. A Maintenance Membership is $199 a month, and the Group Program is $125 a month. One-on-one consultations are $300 per hour.

The practice is a concierge practice that charges a monthly membership. It says that if medication is prescribed, referrals are placed, or blood work is ordered, you can bill your insurance. You can also pay with a Health Savings Spending Account or a CareCredit healthcare credit card. It does not say which insurers it accepts.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask which medication would be prescribed, and whether it is brand-name or compounded. The practice does not name one, and the monthly cost of the medication sits on top of the membership fee.

Ask what follow-up visits and lab work cost, and which insurers the practice works with for referrals and blood work.

Ask what happens after the four-month minimum. Find out whether the membership rolls over month to month, and how you cancel.

Ask whether the membership covers your first visit or whether consultations are billed at $300 per hour on top of it. It does not publish hours, so ask when the office is open.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want a physician to manage your weight directly, you can commit to at least four months of membership, and you are comfortable paying for medication on top of the monthly fee. If you want to know the medication before you commit, ask for the name and the price up front, and that answer will tell you whether it is worth a call.
