About Freedom Doctors

What is Freedom Doctors?

Freedom Doctors is a direct primary care practice at 49 Main Street in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Patients pay a monthly membership fee instead of billing insurance, and the practice sees patients by appointment, with home visits within 20 miles of Sturbridge. You can reach the office at (413) 544-5943. Google lists it as a family practice physician with a 5 rating from 12 reviews.

Dr. Deborah Palmer is the one person named as a prescriber. She is listed as certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and licensed in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire. Primary care is the main work. Physician supervised weight loss and bioidentical hormone therapy are two of its listed services, along with sick visits, telehealth, chronic care management, home visits, procedures, bloodwork, osteopathic manipulative therapy and joint injections.

The one article on hormone therapy is about menopause. It describes estrogen patches, usually paired with progesterone. Its consultations are described as a way to determine whether HRT is the right option for your needs.

This listing is for its Sturbridge office at 49 Main St.

What does it cost?

Membership fees are monthly and cover primary care. Newborn care is $250 a month, infants 12 to 24 months are $175, children 2 to 17 are $75 ($125 without a parent), young adults 18 to 44 are $110, adults 45 to 64 are $125, and seniors 65 and over are $140. A one-time enrollment fee of $199 per person or $300 per family is charged with the first payment. Paying in one installment brings a discount. Membership includes unlimited virtual care, up to 4 home visits a year per person, and annual physicals. Homebound Plus+ is $450 a month, with no description given.

The primary care section lists different monthly figures for some of the same groups: $100 for children, $120 for ages 18 to 39, $135 for ages 40 to 59, and $150 for ages 60 and over. An urgent home visit appears at $300 in one place and $250 in another. Ask which figures apply to you.

Medication, blood work and X-rays are billed on top of membership. You can use insurance for those. The practice does not bill insurance itself. For private insurance it will give you a superbill to submit, and it does not participate in Medicare.

It does not publish prices for weight loss or hormone therapy, and it does not say whether medication is included in any price. You can book a complimentary 15 minute meet and greet with Dr. Palmer before you join. You can cancel at any time, but re-enrolling later costs the enrollment fee again and depends on availability.

What should you ask before you book?

Who writes the prescription for weight loss or hormone therapy, and will it be Dr. Palmer? Does the monthly price for either service include the medication, or is it billed separately? Is the drug brand name or compounded, and where is it filled? What do follow-up visits and lab work cost each month? Which of the two membership price lists applies to you? Can you have telehealth visits if you live outside Massachusetts, since the practice does not name which states it serves? If you cancel, what does re-enrolling cost, and is a place guaranteed?

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you live within 20 miles of Sturbridge, want a primary care doctor you can reach directly, and are ready to pay a monthly membership plus medication and lab costs on your own. If you want a fixed price for weight loss or hormone therapy before you book, call first and ask for it in writing.
