What is Southcoast Health Weight Loss?
Southcoast Health Weight Loss is the weight loss service of Southcoast Health, a not-for-profit, community-based health system in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. It has offices in Wareham and Fall River and says it serves patients from Fall River, Dartmouth, New Bedford and Wareham and nearby areas of MA and RI. Its focus is weight loss, offered as Weight Loss Surgery and a Medical Weight Loss Program.
Its care team is described as physicians, surgeons, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dietitians and licensed social workers. It does not name who prescribes for the medical program. It lists national accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program, and says its team has helped more than 8,800 patients. In its own words: "Whether you’re exploring surgical options or seeking medically guided weight loss management, our team approach is here to offer you compassionate and expert care tailored to your unique goals." Google shows a 4.5 rating from 11 reviews.
This listing is for its Fall River office at 363 Highland Ave.
What does it cost?
It does not publish prices for either service, and it gives no consultation fee. It does not say whether insurance is accepted for the medical program or whether that program is paid in cash. For surgery, it asks patients to call their insurer first to learn what is covered, and all surgery patients review and sign a patient contract. Its footer links to a Price Transparency page, which is worth checking before you call.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask who prescribes for the Medical Weight Loss Program and whether you will see that person. Ask whether any fee includes medication, and if a drug is prescribed, whether it is brand-name or compounded. It does not name the medications it uses, so ask which ones it prescribes. Ask what follow-up visits and lab work cost, and whether telehealth is offered, since it does not say. Its request form also mentions a non-surgical nutrition program called Fresh Start, so ask whether that is separate from the medical program and what it costs. If you are weighing surgery, check the criteria it lists, including a BMI of 35 or above and age 18 or older. Finally, ask whether your insurance covers any part of either program and how cancellation works.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you are considering weight loss surgery or a medically guided program near Wareham or Fall River and want the prescriber, costs and insurance answers in writing before you commit. If you want a cash-pay program with published prices, this one does not show them, so call first.
