What is the Institute for Human Optimization?
The Institute for Human Optimization is a physician-led longevity and precision medicine practice at 7030 Hi Tech Drive #101, Hanover, MD 21076. Anil Bajnath, MD, is the physician who prescribes. The practice says it works with patients in Hanover and the greater Baltimore region. Its main focus is longevity medicine, and it also offers medical weight loss, hormone optimization, and peptide therapy. Its full menu is much longer and includes IV therapy, hyperbaric oxygen, and aesthetic treatments such as neurotoxins and dermal fillers.
In its own words: "Longevity medicine is the preservation of adaptive capacity: the ability to withstand metabolic, inflammatory, vascular, environmental, and physiologic stress while maintaining function." Its Google listing shows a 4.5 rating from 19 reviews. Hours are not listed.
This listing is for its Hanover office at 7030 Hi Tech Drive #101.
What does it cost?
The Biological Audit is the program the practice points new patients toward first. It costs $4,500 for Year 1 and combines whole genome sequencing, quarterly laboratory testing, and quarterly physician visits. The Biological Audit Elite costs $8,700 for Year 1 and adds multi-omic testing, a VO2 Max / PNOE assessment, and one QEEG brain mapping assessment. Continuing care from Year 2 costs $3,200 per year under the Annual Optimization Membership, which includes four physician visits, quarterly lab monitoring, and one annual VO2 Max / PNOE assessment.
The practice does not say whether medication is included in any of these prices. It does not say whether it accepts insurance, and it does not publish a consultation fee. It also publishes no prices for weight loss, hormone, or peptide care.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask whether the $4,500 or $8,700 price covers any medication, or only testing and visits. If you are considering weight loss care, ask which medication would be prescribed and whether it is brand-name or compounded. The practice notes that compounded GLP-1 medications are not FDA-approved, so ask why a compounded version would be chosen for you and what it would cost.
Ask what a consultation costs, and what lab work and follow-up visits cost under a weight loss or hormone plan. Ask whether insurance is accepted, whether telehealth visits are offered, and what the hours are. Before you pay a deposit, ask what the deposit policy requires. Ask whether the Year 2 membership starts automatically, and how you cancel it.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want a physician-led baseline with broad testing and you are ready to pay $4,500 or more out of pocket for a first year of planned follow-up. It is less suited to someone who wants one medication at a posted monthly price, since the practice does not publish one.
