What is SLIM & TRIM INC.?
SLIM & TRIM INC. is a physician-directed weight loss clinic. Pat Miller and Johnda Holbrook had worked for a physician-owned group of weight loss clinics in the tri-state area, and they went out on their own in March 2003. Weight loss is the main service. The clinic also lists specials and an FAQ, but it does not describe the specials.
Two physicians are named as prescribers: Thomas R. Poskitt, M.D., who is board certified in internal medicine and hematology-oncology, and Andrew G Bustin, MD, who is board certified in internal medicine and cardiology. Dr. Poskitt writes that the clinic measures body fat, muscle and water at each visit using bioelectric impedance analysis, rather than relying on body mass index alone.
The clinic serves the tri-state region, naming Cincinnati and Dayton to the west, Huntington and Ashland to the east, and Columbus and Chillicothe to the north. It does not publish a street address or hours. It is open several evenings and Saturdays, and Saturday visitors are asked to call ahead at (606) 932-2040. In its own words: "Being physician directed each patient sees a doctor at every visit." Google rates it 4.5 from 80 reviews, under weight loss service.
Its FAQ compares a brand-name medication with a generic and says the two are the same. It does not name the medication.
What does it cost?
It does not publish prices. No consultation fee, program fee or medication cost appears anywhere on its pages. It does not say whether medication is included in any fee, whether it accepts insurance, or whether it offers telehealth. Ask for every cost in writing before you book: the first visit, each follow-up, the medication, and any lab work.
What should you ask before you book?
Start with who signs the prescription. Two physicians are named as prescribers. A third, Gerald B. Reams, M.D., is shown as retired in 2010 and is not named as a prescriber, so do not assume he will see you. Ask which physician will see you and who signs any prescription.
Ask whether the monthly fee includes the medication, and whether it is the brand-name product or a generic. Ask whether any version is compounded. Ask what follow-up visits and lab work cost, how cancellation works, and whether you must stay for a set period. Ask whether the clinic takes insurance and whether any visits can be done by telehealth. Its copyright dates are 2009 and 2018, so ask whether the staff listings are current.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want a weight loss program overseen by a physician who sees you at every visit, you live within reach of one of the towns it names, and you are willing to get prices and medication terms in writing before you pay. If you need a published price before you call, wait until the clinic has answered the cost questions above.
