About Mountain West Medical Services

What is Mountain West Medical Services?

Mountain West Medical Services is a wellness center and cosmetics practice at 6500 N Linder Rd, #106, in Meridian, Idaho. Its phone number is 208-231-8428. Most of what it advertises is aesthetic work, including microneedling, Hydrafacial, Kybella and hair restoration. Its medical programs cover medical weight loss, hormone therapy and peptides.

John McRae, DNP, MPH, NP-C, started the practice. He is a family nurse practitioner known to patients as Dr. John. The clinic also names Samantha Billingsly, RN, BSN, who is listed as a nurse injector, and Dr. Benjamin Gold, whom the clinic brings in for its peptide program. No credential is given for Dr. Gold. The weight loss program names semaglutide and tirzepatide and offers virtual visits. Office hours run Monday through Thursday, and the office is closed Friday through Sunday. It has a 4.9 rating on Google from 376 reviews.

What does it cost?

The weight loss membership is $349 per month. In its own words: "Membership includes medication and office visits." Laboratory testing is not included in that price. The clinic does not publish a consultation fee, and it does not publish prices for hormone therapy or the peptide program.

It has contracted with most major insurance providers. It lists insurers including Blue Cross of Idaho, Aetna and Medicare, but it does not say which of them cover weight loss visits. It does not publish cancellation or commitment terms for the membership.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask which of the three named people signs your prescription, and what credential that person holds. Ask whether the $349 covers every medication you would be prescribed, and whether each one is a brand-name product or a compounded version. Ask what the consultation costs and what lab work costs on top of the membership.

The peptide program uses a different name, Mountain West Medical Aesthetics, and says: "our peptide program is designed to go far beyond traditional medicine." Ask what that program includes, who sets the protocol, and what it costs before you commit. Ask for hormone therapy prices too, since none are published.

Ask how to cancel the membership and whether there is a minimum term. Ask whether your insurance covers weight loss visits there, and whether your first visit can be a virtual one.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want a medication-based weight loss program with the medication included in one monthly price, and you can keep to its weekday office hours or use a virtual visit. If you are mainly after hormone therapy or peptides, get the prices and the name of the prescriber in writing before you book.
