About The Woman’s Group

What is The Woman’s Group?

The Woman’s Group is an OB/GYN practice with offices in South Tampa, North Tampa, Lutz and Riverview. Its main work is women’s health: obstetrics, gynecology, mammography, infertility and menopause care. Menopause care includes considering hormone replacement therapy when symptoms affect a woman’s ability to carry on her daily routine. The practice also lists aesthetics and wellness services and an in-house pharmacy. Its weight loss program sits under aesthetics and wellness, so it is one service within an OB/GYN practice.

Dr. Irene Wahba is the prescriber named for the weight loss program. No credentials are published for her, so none are given here. The program runs in phases. The first visit includes weight and body fat readings, blood pressure, an EKG and blood tests, plus a supplement injection, a week of appetite suppressant medication and ketone sensing strips. Follow-up visits continue until you reach your goal weight. Then comes maintenance, where the appetite suppressant is gradually reduced and visits drop to monthly for six months. The name of the appetite suppressant is not published.

This listing is for its Tampa office at 2716 W. Virginia Ave.

What does it cost?

The weight loss program has two published fees, and both are cash pay. The initial consultation and assessment is $200. It covers the tests, the first week’s medication, a weekly shot and an initial supply of supplements. Each follow-up visit is $60 and includes that week’s medication and weekly shot. Supplements are priced separately. In its own words: "Weight Loss is not covered by insurance companies, therefore our patients are responsible for all program fees." All fees are due at the time of service.

It does not publish a monthly rate, a package price, a commitment length or cancellation terms.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask who signs each prescription, and whether Dr. Irene Wahba sees you at every visit or whether other clinicians do. Ask the name of the appetite suppressant, whether it is brand-name or compounded, and whether it is filled through the in-house pharmacy. Ask what the supplement injections contain and what the separately priced supplements cost each month.

Ask for the total expected cost from your first visit through maintenance, and whether maintenance visits are also $60 each. Ask what lab work or follow-up testing costs beyond the $200 consultation. Ask whether any part of the program can be done by video. Video visits are offered as a service, but the program’s own write-up says weight loss patients must attend in person for exams, tests, weigh-ins and progress charting. Ask how cancellation works and whether medication you have paid for can be refunded. Ask for the office hours at the location you would use, since none are published.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want an in-person, cash-pay, physician-guided program and you are comfortable paying per visit without insurance. It may not fit if you need a package price up front or care that is entirely by video. Although the practice mainly serves women, its weight loss program welcomes all people.
