What is Discover Health?
Discover Health is a medical weight loss practice with its main office in Bradenton, Florida, and a second office in Sarasota. It is a subsidiary of Florida Sleep Specialists. The prescribers are Jeremy McConnell, MD, who is the medical director, Mia Crawford, DNP, NP-C, and Rachel Smith, ARNP, DNP. Vinola Rodrigues and Julia Goldberg are health coaches, not prescribers, and they lead the live virtual coaching sessions.
The practice offers evidence-based weight loss, medication reviews, FDA-approved medications, body composition testing on SECA equipment, and telemedicine visits, which are part of its membership program. It has a 4.8 rating from 40 Google reviews. It accepts medical insurance for office visits.
What does it cost?
The Discover Health Blueprint membership costs $594 for six months, or $99 a month. It covers unlimited support, tools and resources, including recorded lectures, live virtual coaching, a nutrition tracking app with a nutritional coach, SECA myAnalytics app access, free workshops and seminars, and telemedicine visits. In its own words: "the Blueprint membership fee cannot be billed to insurance, as it includes non-covered services such as coaching, educational tools, and access to the nutrition app." Office visits can be billed to insurance, but your copay, deductible or coinsurance applies under your plan.
It does not publish a consultation fee or medication prices. It also does not say whether medication is included in the membership price.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask who will write your prescription and which of the three prescribers you would see. Ask whether the $99 monthly fee includes your medication, and if it does not, what the medication costs each month. Ask whether the drug is brand-name or compounded, since the clinic does not name the medications it uses.
Ask what the consultation costs and what follow-up visits and lab work cost, and whether those visits go through your insurance. Ask whether your plan covers weight loss medication, because the clinic does not say. Ask how you cancel the membership and whether any part of the six months can be refunded, since no cancellation terms are stated. Finally, ask which office you would be seen at, because no street address is published for the Sarasota location.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want named prescribers, in-person or telemedicine visits, and a coaching program, and you are prepared to pay a monthly membership fee on top of any visit costs. If you need medication prices or cancellation terms in writing before you pay, get them before you book.
