About Brinson Family Medicine

What is Brinson Family Medicine?

Brinson Family Medicine is a family medicine practice at 695 Douglas Avenue in Altamonte Springs, Florida 32714. Dr. Ashton C. Brinson, MD is the prescriber named, and Dr. Brinson returned home in 2006 to open the practice. Family medicine is the core of the practice. Alongside it, the practice offers a medically supervised weight loss program, bio-identical hormone replacement, a Medical Marijuana Compassionate Program, Warm Sculpting, esthetics, supplements and CareCredit financing. Google lists the practice in the weight loss service category at 4.2 stars from 75 reviews.

The weight loss program starts with an initial visit that includes weight and body fat measurements, a blood pressure check, an EKG and blood work. After that, participants are monitored weekly. The program includes medications to curb appetite, but the medications are not named. The hormone pages name PT-141, also called bremelanotide, and describe bio-identical hormone pellets under the BIOTE name. Dr. Brinson is a certified doctor for the medical marijuana program.

What does it cost?

Published prices cover medical marijuana visits only. The initial certification visit costs $250, and each six-month follow-up costs $150. If you do not qualify, there is no fee for the consultation. The state Registry ID Card costs $75 a year and is paid to the state, not the practice. The practice does not bill insurance for these visits, but it gives a receipt you can submit for reimbursement if your plan allows. It accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, CareCredit and cash for those visits.

It does not publish prices for weight loss, hormone therapy, Warm Sculpting or esthetics. It also does not say whether the appetite medication is included in the weight loss program cost, or whether the weight loss visit has a consultation fee.

It is a participating provider with a long list of carriers, including Aetna, UnitedHealth Care, several BCBS plans and Medicare plans. It also names plans it does not accept, among them some Cigna, Medicare Advantage and Florida Blue plans. CareCredit is accepted, which lets you start treatment now and pay in monthly installments. On refunds, the practice's policy is direct: "There will be NO REFUNDS for services rendered."

What should you ask before you book?

Ask whether Dr. Brinson writes every prescription, or whether another clinician does. Ask whether the weight loss fee includes the appetite medication, the injection, the supplements and the meal plan, and what each costs on its own. Ask which appetite medication is used and whether it is brand-name or compounded. Ask the same about PT-141 and the hormone pellets.

Ask what the blood work, EKG and weekly check-ins cost, and whether follow-up visits are billed separately. Ask whether any visits can be done by video, since that is not stated. Ask how to cancel a program and what, if anything, can be returned under the no-refund policy. If you have insurance, check your exact plan name against both the accepted and not-accepted lists before you book.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want a local family physician who also offers cash-pay weight loss, hormone therapy or medical marijuana visits, and you are ready to get every price in writing before the first visit. If you need posted prices before you call, expect to ask for most of them.
