What is The Healing Duo?
The Healing Duo is a naturopathic family medicine practice at 9 Mott Ave, Suite 203, Norwalk, CT 06850. Its co-founders and naturopathic doctors are Dr. Giovanni A. Nelson, ND and Dr. Pamela Santapaola, ND. Visits are by appointment only, Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM, and the office is closed on weekends.
It offers counseling, fertility care, functional health testing, health coaching, herbal medicine, naturopathic medicine, nutrition and weight loss. Its weight loss program uses nutritional counseling, herbal supplements and lifestyle changes, and it names no prescription weight loss medication. It lists balancing hormones among the things the program may address, but it names no hormone therapy, peptide or longevity medicine.
Medical visits can be virtual. In its own words: "Due to state licensing regulations, patients must be physically present in CT at the time of their medical appointment." Health coaching can be accessed from anywhere except Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee, which it does not serve. It has a 4.9 rating on Google from 160 reviews.
What does it cost?
A new patient's 60-minute first visit is $450.00. It covers history, initial assessment and orders for labs or imaging, and no treatment prescriptions are made at that visit. A 75-minute treatment plan and lab review visit is $450.00, and an ongoing 45-minute visit is $250.00. A 20-minute audio-only follow-up call is $110, and a 30-minute Vitality Discovery Session is $150. The Vitality Membership is $150 a month and includes one 30-minute visit, with extra sessions at $150 each.
It does not publish a price for its weight loss program. The $450 visits are for general naturopathic care, not weight loss specifically, and it does not say whether any medication is included.
It is out of network with every insurance company. For CT medical patients it provides a superbill on request, and HSA or FSA funds can typically pay for consultations, coaching, lab tests and prescribed supplements. Membership cancellation requires two weeks' notice before the next billing cycle. Missed standard appointments without 48 hours' notice are charged 50% of the appointment cost.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask whether a prescription medication is ever part of its weight loss care, and what it would be. Ask whether the $150 membership covers any medication or only the one 30-minute visit. Ask what lab tests and lab interpretation cost without the member discount, and whether your insurer will reimburse a superbill for an out-of-network visit. Ask how to give notice to cancel the membership, and get the cancellation date confirmed in writing.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want a naturopathic, nutrition and herbal approach to weight loss, and you are comfortable with visits that are out of network for your insurance. It is not the right call if you are looking for prescription weight loss medication, hormone therapy or peptide care, since none of those is named.
