About Frontline Healthcare Endocrinology
What is Frontline Healthcare Endocrinology?
Frontline Healthcare Endocrinology is an endocrinology practice at 225 W Hillcrest Drive, Suite 301, in Thousand Oaks, California. It treats adults for thyroid disorders, diabetes, metabolic conditions and hormone imbalances, including hormone therapy for men and women. Michael F. Robinson, MD, is its medical director and the one physician the practice names.
Its self-pay weight-loss program includes monthly check-ins with a licensed clinician, an MD or NP, and compounded medicine shipped monthly if one is prescribed. The office is open Monday to Thursday, 8am to 6pm, and closed Friday through Sunday. It does not say whether any visits can be done by video.
What does it cost?
The first weight-loss consultation is $180, charged once and due whether or not medicine is prescribed. The lowest-priced plan at its starting dose is $299 a month, and that covers the monthly check-in and the medicine. Higher doses and other medicines cost more, and the monthly fee rises with the dose. In its own words: "We give you the full price list in writing before you pay."
The weight-loss program is self-pay only. It is not billed to insurance and is not offered to people covered by Medicare, Medi-Cal, TRICARE, or other government health programs. For its other visits, the practice accepts major PPOs and Medicare, and new self-pay patients get 5% off self-pay rates. It does not publish prices for hormone therapy, thyroid care or diabetes care.
You can cancel at any time, with no cancellation fee and no contract. Give at least 3 business days' notice before your next monthly charge. The $180 is not refunded after the visit, and a monthly fee is not refunded once the pharmacy has filled that month's medicine.
What should you ask before you book?
Who writes the prescription, and will you see Michael F. Robinson, MD, or an NP? Ask which clinician you will see at each check-in.
Does the $299 fee cover the medicine and every check-in? The practice's general self-pay information says medical visits and prescription medication are billed separately, while its weight-loss information says the monthly fee covers both. Ask which applies, and get the answer in writing.
The medicine is compounded, and no drug name is given. Ask which drug it is and how a compounded version differs from a brand-name one.
Ask what follow-up visits and lab work cost, and what a hormone therapy visit costs, since no prices are posted for it. Ask whether any visit can be done by video.
Finally, ask for your monthly charge date when you start. The notice you owe depends on it.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you are an adult paying out of pocket for weight-loss care or hormone therapy and want an endocrinology office in Thousand Oaks that is accepting new patients. It is a weaker fit if you are covered by Medicare, Medi-Cal, TRICARE or another government program and want the weight-loss program, since that program is not offered to people covered by them.
