About Santa Barbara Endocrinology
What is Santa Barbara Endocrinology?
Santa Barbara Endocrinology is an endocrinology practice at 1532 State Street, 2nd Floor, Santa Barbara, CA 93101. The phone number is (805) 323-9750. Sylvia Rivera, M.D., MD, is the prescriber and founded the practice. Her bio lists board certifications in internal medicine, endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism. The practice has served Santa Barbara and surrounding areas since 2016, and Google shows it with a 4.7 rating from 50 reviews.
It is mainly an endocrine practice. It offers type 1 and type 2 diabetes management, obesity management, women's health (including diabetes in pregnancy, PCOS and menopause), care for insulin resistance, thyroid disease and thyroid cancer, osteoporosis and osteopenia, and parathyroid, pituitary and adrenal disorders. Obesity management is one service among many. Its weight-loss material describes checking blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar at regular check-ins, with a plant-forward diet and lifestyle changes. It does not name a weight-loss medication.
It also sees patients by video. In its own words: "We also see patients anywhere in California via telehealth visits."
What does it cost?
The first visit is a $750 initial consultation that runs up to 90 minutes. Patients who need one or two visits a year can pay fee for service. Anyone who needs more than two visits a year, or who has type 1 or type 2 diabetes or complex endocrine conditions, must join membership. The Momentum membership is $350 a month, with a 10% discount on an annual commitment. It covers unlimited office visits, prescription management and renewals, lab ordering and result review, and device management for CGMs and pumps. Memberships are billed monthly or annually.
It is cash pay only. In its own words: "We made the deliberate choice not to accept insurance."
It does not publish a weight-loss program price. It does not say whether the membership fee includes any medication. It does not publish lab prices.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask whether the $350 membership covers any medication, and if so which one, and whether it is brand-name or compounded. Ask who writes and renews the prescription. Ask what labs and imaging cost on top of membership. It does not say whether it offers hormone therapy, so ask that directly. Its telehealth is described only for California, so ask whether it can see you if you live elsewhere. It does not list office hours, so ask those too. Ask how membership is cancelled and whether the annual plan can be refunded if you stop. Ask whether it accepts HSA funds or financing.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you can pay out of pocket, want an endocrinologist monitoring blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar alongside your weight, and are ready for a membership if you need ongoing visits. It suits someone who wants that medical oversight more than a published weight-loss program with a set price.
