About San Diego Menopause
What is San Diego Menopause?
San Diego Menopause is a women-focused menopause practice at 3160 Camino Del Rio South, Ste 315, San Diego, CA 92108. Its main work is menopause care. It lists six services: perimenopause, menopause, non-hormonal therapy, hormone replacement therapy, weight loss with GLP-1s, and men's health. Weight loss is one service among several.
The prescribers are Jennifer Davis, MD, MSCP, who came to menopause care after a pediatrics career, and Taylor Stafford, DNP, MSCP, a nurse practitioner. Hormone therapy is offered as FDA approved creams, gels, patches, vaginal rings, and pills. Visits can be in person or by telemedicine, but telemedicine patients must be physically in California at the time of the appointment. The practice does not serve as a primary care provider, so you will need another clinician for routine care. Hours are 9 AM to 4 PM Monday through Thursday and 9 AM to 1 PM on Friday. Its Google rating is 4.9 from 113 reviews.
In its own words: "At San Diego Menopause, our providers assist women in addressing the symptoms of menopause through hormone therapy (HT), lifestyle changes, and non-hormonal medications."
What does it cost?
Weight loss visits for established patients are $300. Each one includes a body composition scan on an InBody 580, which measures body fat, visceral fat, and muscle mass. Patients are typically seen at baseline, at 2 months, then every 3 months, and every 6 months once in maintenance. For patients paying out of pocket, GLP-1 care is typically $299 to $399 per month, with costs kept lower through GoodRx coupons or manufacturer ordering when appropriate. It does not say whether the medication is included in that monthly range. It does not publish a first-visit or consultation fee, so ask for that number before booking.
It does not accept insurance. It provides a superbill you can submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement, and it accepts Health Savings Account funds. It does not publish financing, membership, or cancellation terms.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask who writes the GLP-1 prescription, and whether the $299 to $399 range covers the medication or whether the drug is billed on top of it. Ask which GLP-1 you would receive, since the practice does not name its medications, and whether it is brand-name or compounded.
Ask what the first visit costs. Patients are expected to have completed standard annual lab work within the past year before starting weight loss treatment, so ask whether you need new labs and what they cost. Ask what follow-up visits add to the monthly figure, how cancellation works, and whether there is a minimum commitment.
If you have type 2 diabetes, raise that before booking. The practice recommends ongoing management with an endocrinologist rather than starting GLP-1 therapy there. If you are considering hormone therapy, ask about the follow-up schedule, which is set within 4-8 weeks. If you want telehealth, confirm that you will be in California during the visit and ask whether weight loss care can be done remotely, since those visits are currently offered in the office.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you are in perimenopause or menopause, want hormone or non-hormonal treatment from clinicians focused on that stage, already have a clinician for routine care, and can pay cash or use HSA funds. It is a poor match if you need the practice to bill your insurer directly, since it does not accept insurance.
