What is Soma Concierge Care?
Soma Concierge Care is a concierge primary care and longevity medicine practice with offices in Monterey and Salinas, California. It serves Greater Monterey County. Most of what it does is membership care, where a physician acts as your regular doctor. Weight management with GLP-1 medication is one of its services. The physician who prescribes is Dr. Dipti Munshi, MD, MD. She founded the practice, and her career as a hospitalist spans almost a decade, including at Ochsner Medical Center.
The memberships bundle an annual wellness planning session, quarterly check-ins, labs, an EKG, and body composition and VO₂ Max testing. The Elite tier adds full-body MRI. Soma Direct Connect gives text access to the care team. GLP-1 is the only medication it names. It does not list hormone therapy or peptide therapy. It has one Google review, rated 5.
This listing is for its Salinas office at 947 Blanco Cir Ste c.
What does it cost?
Memberships are billed per year. Soma Core is $3,500 a year, Soma Advanced is $6,500 a year, and Soma Elite is $13,500 a year, with Elite limited to 30 members. GLP-1 management is included in Advanced and Elite. The membership price does not include medication. It does not publish the consultation fee. If you enroll within 14 days of the consultation, that fee is credited toward your first year.
The practice is cash-pay only. In its own words: "We don't bill insurance for office visits or for the services included in your membership tier." On request, it will provide a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Traditional Medicare beneficiaries are not eligible for Advanced or Elite. They are served by a separate Medicare Core tier, which covers primary care only. Payments already made are non-refundable, because the fee reserves the physician's time for the year.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask which GLP-1 medication is used. The specific drug is not named, so ask whether it is brand-name or compounded. Ask what it costs each month and who orders it, since medication is not part of the membership price. Ask whether Dr. Munshi personally signs every GLP-1 prescription and who covers when she is away.
Ask how items outside your tier are billed. The FAQ says prescriptions and specialist visits outside the tier are billed separately through insurance, which does not fit a cash-pay practice. Ask which applies and what each costs. Ask what follow-up labs and visits cost beyond the labs included in your tier.
Ask whether hormone therapy is offered, since it is not listed. Ask which states the telehealth covers, because it does not name them. Fridays are reserved for administrative work, but urgent televisits and phone touchpoints are available. Ask the Monterey office hours, since only the Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM schedule is given. Finally, ask what happens to the rest of the year if you cancel early, given the non-refundable terms.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want one physician as your everyday doctor, can pay for a membership in cash, and want GLP-1 weight management run by that same physician. It makes less sense if you need your medication covered by insurance, or if you are on traditional Medicare and want Advanced or Elite. It is worth calling at (831) 850-0956 to get the consultation fee, medication cost and cancellation terms in writing before you pay.
