What is Associated Family Physicians?
Associated Family Physicians is a family medicine practice at 8120 Timberlake Way, Suite 202, Sacramento, CA 95823. The phone number is (916) 689-4111. It has served families for over three decades and notes that it has moved to this suite. Its providers are Sarah Alarabi, DO, Lauren Wendler, PA, Emily Njoroge, FNP, and Cavan Quam, FNP.
Its services are primary care, chronic condition management, weight management, PrEP for HIV prevention, gender-affirming care including hormone-replacement therapy, and addiction medicine. Its service list also covers cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid conditions, arthritis pain and skin cancer screening. Weight management is one service within a family practice, not the focus of the clinic. It does not name a weight loss medication or describe how the program runs, and it does not say which provider handles hormone therapy. Google shows it at 3.8 from 5 reviews.
This listing is for its Sacramento office at 8120 Timberlake Way, Suite 202.
What does it cost?
It does not publish prices. It lists no amounts for fees or payments, and no consultation fee appears anywhere. Because no monthly price is given, it is also unclear whether medication would be included in any charge.
Insurance is the clinic's stated way in. It accepts HMO plans contracted through Hill Physicians Medical Group (HPMG) and Sutter Independent Physicians Network (SIP). Its insurance list also includes Medicare HMO and PPO plans, along with several other PPOs. In its own words: "HMO plans accepted by our practice that are contracted through HPMG." It says new Medicare patients can book appointments. It does not say whether it takes cash payment for care an insurer does not cover, or whether it offers financing or an HSA option.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask which provider prescribes hormone therapy, and what the visits and lab work cost, including follow-up. For weight management, ask whether the program uses a prescription medication, whether that medication is brand-name or compounded, and what it costs each month with and without the medication. Ask what Nuya is. Its social feed announces a launch by that name, and the clinic does not explain it.
Ask whether any visit can be done by video. The menu has a VideoVisit link, but nothing says what it covers. Ask what happens if your plan does not pay for a visit, and how to cancel or stop any recurring charge.
Confirm your plan by name against the insurance list. Confirm the address as well, since it appears as 8110 Timberlake Way in one place and 8120 in others. The hours also differ. One listing shows Monday to Thursday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with Fridays from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Others show Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you have coverage through one of the HMO plans listed and want primary care, chronic condition care and weight management from one family practice. If you want a cash-pay clinic with published prices and a named weight loss medication, call and get those answers before you book, because the clinic does not give them.
