About United Medical Fitness

What is United Medical Fitness?

United Medical Fitness is a medical fitness center with offices in Temecula and Encinitas, California. Its medical weight loss program opened in the Inland Empire in 2010 under the name United Medical Weight Loss, and the Encinitas office is now open. It is mainly a gym with a physician-led weight loss program. The prescribers it lists are Eunice Rhee, DO, Director of Medical Weight Loss; John Hong, MBA, MD; Brian S. Lim, MD; and Shehzaana Kureshi, PA-C. It has a 4.9 rating on Google from 203 reviews.

Its services include medical weight loss, weight loss consultations, Orbera gastric balloon and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) procedures, personal training, a registered dietitian, metabolic and body composition testing, EKGs, blood work, physical therapy and group classes. In its own words: "Medical Weight Loss is a customized and supervised weight loss program designed by our medical professionals." The only medication it names is Vitamin B-12 shots. It does not list hormone therapy or peptide therapy.

This listing is for its Encinitas office at 777 N El Camino Real Ste. 200.

What does it cost?

The one published package price is the Medical Weight Loss Package at $1,250. It includes 20 private 30-minute personal training sessions with a kinesiologist, a 60-minute dietitian consult, a 30-minute follow-up, metabolic and body composition testing, measurements, one month of gym membership with group classes, four Vitamin B-12 shots, a mixer cup and weekly check-ins. It does not say whether any prescription medication is included.

Other packages are the Starter Package at $199, the Baseline Package at $449 and the Trifecta Package at $699. The Basic Orbera Package is $6,250 and includes the balloon insert and non-surgical removal, surgery center facility fees, three personal training sessions, three dietitian appointments and six months of check-ins. ESG pricing varies and is not listed. Consultations are complimentary, and the clinic advertises no contracts or annual fees. It does not say whether it accepts insurance. In its own words: "Financing options are available for our weight loss procedures." Monthly membership prices are not published.

What should you ask before you book?

Which of the four prescribers will see you at the Temecula office? The clinic does not tie any one prescriber to either location. Who signs your prescription, and will it be the same prescriber at each visit?

Does the $1,250 package include any prescription medication, or only the B-12 shots? If a medication is part of your plan, is it brand-name or compounded, and who fills it? No weight loss medication is named by name.

Is the $1,250 paid once or over time, and what happens to unused sessions if you stop early? What do follow-up visits and blood work cost? Those prices are not published.

Does the clinic bill any insurance? The membership tiers list insurance reimbursement with an asterisk the clinic does not explain, so ask what it means. Ask whether telehealth visits are available, since it does not say. For the balloon or ESG, ask what the quoted price covers and what would cost extra. Ask how a monthly membership is cancelled.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want in-person, physician-supervised weight loss paired with a gym, a dietitian and personal training, and you are comfortable asking who prescribes and what the price covers before you pay. It is not the place for hormone or peptide therapy, since it offers neither.
