About Mona Medical

What is Mona Medical?

Mona Medical is a physician-led practice with offices in Salinas and Carmel, California. Aesthetic treatments come first on its menu, including Botox, lip filler and microneedling. It also runs medical weight loss, hormone therapy, sexual health and concierge care, with telehealth for weight management, hormone and concierge visits across California. Aesthetic treatments are in person only.

The weight loss program begins with a physician-led evaluation and an InBody 570 body composition analysis in Salinas. It offers GLP-1 medications, including semaglutide and tirzepatide, and phentermine may come up depending on history.

Dr. Lorena Monarrez, MD, is board-certified in obesity medicine and emergency medicine, and trained at Stanford and UCSF. Cristina Gates, PA-C, is the lead injector, and Katie Pezzini, MSN, RN, is a registered nurse on the team. Dr. Monarrez sees Carmel patients personally.

This listing is for its Carmel office at 26362 Carmel Rancho Ln Ste 216.

What does it cost?

It does not publish medication or program prices, and it does not say whether medication is included in program fees. The consultation is complimentary for aesthetics and $100 for concierge care, weight loss, hormone therapy and sexual health. That $100 is applied to your care if you go ahead. Payment plans run through Cherry, with 0% APR options for qualified applicants.

In its own words: "Mona Medical is a cash-pay practice, which is what allows us to spend real time with each patient." Qualifying medical services may be paid with FSA or HSA funds, though cosmetic procedures generally are not. It does not state commitment or cancellation terms for the weight loss program.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask who signs weight loss prescriptions, and whether that is Dr. Monarrez or another clinician on the team. Ask whether a program fee includes the medication, and what the medication costs on its own. Ask whether a GLP-1 would be a brand-name product or a compounded one. It uses compounded options when they are the right fit.

Ask what labs, follow-up visits and body composition checks cost, and how the program ends, including cancellation and the plan if you stop medication. Ask for office hours, which it does not publish, and what the grand opening specials cover.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you are paying cash for weight loss, hormone or sexual health care and want medical visits by video or in person, plus aesthetic treatments in the same practice. If you need published prices, office hours or cancellation terms before booking, call first, since none are posted.
