About Skin Confident Alaska
What is Skin Confident Alaska?
Skin Confident Alaska is a medical spa with offices in Soldotna and Homer, Alaska. Most of its work is aesthetic: neurotoxins, hyaluronic acid fillers, biostimulators, Sciton laser and light treatments, microneedling, chemical peels and skin assessments. Weight loss is one of its services, run as a separate program.
Whitney Carlson, FNP-C, MSN, prescribes for that program. The program uses semaglutide, a GLP-1 medication, for adults who meet its criteria: a BMI greater than 30, or a BMI of 27 with at least one comorbidity. It cites 17+ years of clinical experience, and its Google listing shows a rating of 5 from 65 reviews.
What does it cost?
The consultation is $149. That covers the first visit, the bloodwork drawn at that visit, and an InBody body composition report. It does not publish a monthly program price, and it does not say whether the monthly fee includes the medication. You confirm each medication order by text, and the card on file is charged. It states there are no auto-pay or subscription terms, and that the price does not change through the program.
It is cash pay only, though it refers patients to River Health & Wellness when they meet criteria and insurance will cover the cost. Its Skin Club memberships, which are separate from the weight program, cost $99, $299 or $499 a year.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask what the monthly program fee is, and whether it includes the medication. Ask whether the medication is brand name or compounded, and which pharmacy supplies it.
Ask whether injections at the clinic or injections at home are included in the fee, since it leaves that detail for the consultation.
In its own words: "Weekly medication and supply pick-ups from the clinic are also required throughout the program." Ask which office you would use for those visits and how that fits your week.
Ask what follow up visits and lab work cost after the $149 consultation. Ask how to end the program, since it does not describe that. Ask whether the weight program runs out of Homer, because it does not say.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want aesthetic treatments in Soldotna or Homer, or a cash pay weight program with a nurse practitioner and regular visits, and you meet the BMI criteria above. Call (907) 420-3500 and ask for the monthly price before you book.
