About Vulcan Wellness & Aesthetics
What is Vulcan Wellness & Aesthetics?
Vulcan Wellness & Aesthetics is a physician-led clinic at 2015 Kentucky Avenue, Vestavia Hills, AL 35216. Its main medical work is medical weight management and hormone replacement therapy. It also offers GLP-1 microdosing, aesthetics treatments and nutrition counseling. The clinic names four doctors for its hormone care: Dr. Brytney Cobia, Dr. Elizabeth Davies, Dr. Tom Lewis and Dr. Kevin Tice. Women are directed to Dr. Cobia or Dr. Davies, and men to Dr. Lewis or Dr. Tice. Its weight management physicians are board-certified or board-eligible in obesity medicine, but the clinic does not say which doctor holds which credential.
The clinic's pitch for its weight care is that it is physician-led. In its own words: "There are no gimmicks at Vulcan." Its listed hours are 09:00 am to 05:00 pm, with a lunch closure from 1 to 1:30 pm each day. The phone number is 205-438-6009. Google lists the clinic as a weight loss service with a 4.8 rating from 59 reviews.
What does it cost?
Medical weight management costs $150 for the initial assessment and $75 for each monthly follow-up appointment. The clinic does not say whether medication is included in the monthly fee, and it gives no price for the medications it names, Wegovy and Zepbound. Nutrition counseling is $99 for an initial 60-minute session and $45 for each 30-minute session after that. Hormone care starts with an initial consultation that includes lab work: $299 for men (30 minutes with the physician) and $449 for women (45 minutes). A VI Peel is listed at a special price of $269 for October. GLP-1 microdosing has no price listed.
The clinic does not accept insurance. It takes cash, credit card, Venmo and Apple Pay, and it lists PatientFi financing as an option. It does not publish membership terms or a cancellation policy.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask who writes and signs the prescription for weight medication, and whether it will be one of the four named doctors. The microdosing program is guided by "one of our medical providers," but no name is given. Ask whether the $75 monthly fee includes the medication, what the medication costs on top of that, and whether it is brand-name or compounded.
Ask what the clinic means by its microdosing description. It says there is no FDA-approved dosing protocol for microdosing and that the approach may involve off-label prescribing. Ask what that means for your plan. Ask what follow-up lab work costs, since both hormone and microdosing care rely on lab markers. Ask whether any visits can be done by video, because telehealth is not mentioned. Finally, ask how to cancel the monthly plan and whether there is a minimum number of months.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you can get to Vestavia Hills in person, will pay cash or through financing, and want a named physician in charge of your weight or hormone plan. It is less of a fit if you need insurance billing, peptide therapy or longevity medicine, none of which the clinic lists among its services.
