What is THE REFINERY?
THE REFINERY is a physician-led aesthetic and wellness clinic at 513 Gunter Avenue in downtown Lake Guntersville, Alabama. You can call 256-505-8785. Google lists it as a medical spa and shows a 5 rating from 112 reviews. Its services include Botox and dermal filler, IV hydration, massage, microneedling, spider vein treatment, and hormone care for men and women.
Dr. Mark Christensen, MD, is the one person named as prescriber. The clinic also names him as its physician and medical director, and lists him as an EMT. Hormone care is the clinic's most detailed service. Treatment can be given as patches, creams, injections or implantable pellets. The clinic also offers peptide stacks and GLP-1 medications, and names semaglutide and tirzepatide, along with peptides such as BPC-157, TB-500, CJC-1295, Ipamorelin, GHK-Cu, Epithalon, PT-141, AOD-9604, 5-Amino-1MQ, Selank and DSIP. It names Huntsville, Madison, Albertville, Boaz, Arab, Cullman and Birmingham among the towns it serves.
What does it cost?
Hormone care is sold as monthly memberships. Bronze is $99 a month and includes an initial consultation and treatment plan, follow-up every three months, basic labs twice a year, prescription management and secure messaging. Silver is $169 a month and adds expanded labs, follow-up every one to three months, one B12 injection a month and a member rate on IV therapy that comes to $39 a month in savings. Gold is $249 a month and adds monthly progress visits, one IV session each quarter and monthly injectable support. Pellets can be added to Silver for $20 a month for women or $30 a month for men, and Gold includes them.
The first consultation is free. The clinic also offers pay-per-visit care, but it does not publish those prices. It does not say whether the membership price includes medication, whether it accepts insurance, or how a membership is cancelled. It does not publish prices for GLP-1 medications or peptides.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask who writes and adjusts your prescription, and how often Dr. Christensen himself sees you. Ask whether the monthly fee covers the medication, since the clinic does not say. Ask whether semaglutide, tirzepatide and the peptides are brand-name or compounded, and who makes them. Ask what the GLP-1 and peptide programs cost each month, and what lab work costs outside the membership.
Ask whether you can cancel at any time or must commit to a set number of months. Ask whether insurance is accepted, whether telehealth visits are offered, and what the clinic hours are, since none of these are stated.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want hormone care or a GLP-1 program run by a named physician, you can make the drive to downtown Lake Guntersville, and you are comfortable paying monthly once the medication cost is confirmed. If you are mainly after Botox, filler, massage or IV visits, ask for the price of each service before you book, since the membership prices above are for hormone care.
