About Summit MedAesthetics

What is Summit MedAesthetics?

Summit MedAesthetics is a medical spa with offices in Akron and Boardman, Ohio, and in Harmony, Pennsylvania. Google lists it as a medical spa, with a 4.1 rating from 53 reviews. Most of what it offers is cosmetic: Botox, Juvederm, Kybella, laser treatments, IV therapy and cosmetic gynecology such as labiaplasty and MonaLisa Touch. Hormone therapy is one of its services.

The hormone program uses Biote pellets that contain testosterone and estradiol. The pellets are placed under the skin of the upper buttocks during an office visit, after lab testing. The only prescriber the clinic names is Costas A. Apostolis, MD, FACOG, FPMRS. He is double board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. In its own words: "Dr. Apostolis is highly trained in helping patients manage their hormone balance with Biote." He has practiced in Akron since 2012.

What does it cost?

The clinic publishes a few prices, but none for hormone therapy. Its monthly specials include a free hormone therapy consultation, listed at a retail value of $100. Other specials are a BBL Laser Photofacial at $350 (retail $500) and a Rejuvenate Chemical Peel at $175 (retail $215).

The VIP membership has a $149 annual fee and a $100 monthly credit, with a 12 month commitment. Members pay $11 per unit of Botox and get 10% off Juvederm and Kybella and 20% off BBL Photofacial. The offer terms say the offer is not transferable or refundable and is valid for 12 months from purchase.

It does not publish a price for the pellets. It does not say whether the medication is included in any price, what the lab work costs, or whether it accepts insurance.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask who writes and signs the hormone prescription. Dr. Apostolis is the only prescriber the clinic names, so ask whether he reviews your labs and decides when the pellets are reinserted. Ask whether the medication is part of any quoted price, and what the lab work and follow-up visits cost. The clinic describes its pellets as custom compounded, so ask how they are made and by whom. It also sells Biote nutraceuticals, so ask whether any are part of the plan.

No hours are listed, and it does not say whether follow-up can be done by telehealth, so ask both. A $25 fee applies to no-shows and late cancellations, and a credit card must be kept on file. Before you join a membership, ask how it is cancelled and whether any part is refundable.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want hormone therapy at a cash-pay practice that also offers cosmetic care, and you are ready to ask for the full cost before you commit. It is a weaker fit if you need the pellet and lab costs in writing before your first visit, since neither is published.
