About Functional Now

What is Functional Now?

Functional Now is an integrative primary care practice at 8271 Cornell Road, Suite 720, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Its main work is primary care on a membership model, paid by the patient directly rather than billed to insurance. The listed prescribers are Ashley Dishion, FNP-BC, MSN, who is also the founder; Austin Baker, FNP-BC; and Bryan Hagerman, RN. Its services include Gut Health, Hormone Replacement Therapy, Weight Management, Wellness Care, Management of Chronic Care, and Functional Medicine. For hormone therapy it says, "Our Hormone Replacement Therapy services are designed to restore hormonal balance and ease symptoms related to hormonal imbalances." Weight management is described as nutrition, movement guidance and ongoing support, and no weight-loss medication is named. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.

What does it cost?

A Primary Care visit is $250 for 50 minutes. A Functional Medicine visit is $600 for 90 minutes, with a 50-minute follow-up within 30 days included, and testing is paid by the patient. Membership starts at $125 a month after a one-time $200 initiation fee, with 10% off for memberships paid in full. A nonrefundable $75 scheduling fee applies to non-member visits and to first visits for new members. Lab estimates include GI-MAP at $327.18 and DUTCH Complete at $300.00. The practice does not publish a hormone therapy price, and it does not say whether medication is included in any price. It takes HSA and FSA cards and does not bill insurance, though it will provide a superbill. Members may cancel at any time by notifying the office.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask for a written hormone therapy price that covers the first visit, labs, prescriptions and follow-up. Ask whether medication is part of the membership fee, and whether any prescribed drug is brand-name or compounded. Ask which of the three prescribers you would see, and the name of the collaborating physician, since the practice does not name that person. Ask the office to explain the functional medicine price, because the appointment page says $600 and the FAQ gives a standalone visit as $500. Ask whether the $200 initiation fee is refundable if you cancel. If you live in Northern Kentucky, ask how telehealth works, since the FAQ says you must be physically in Ohio during the appointment.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want primary care on a membership basis, can get to Cornell Road for an in-person first visit, and are comfortable paying cash once prices are confirmed in writing. It is a poorer match if you need a published hormone therapy price before you call, or if you are looking for a medication-based weight-loss program, since none is named.
