About Medical Edge Day Spa

What is Medical Edge Day Spa?

Medical Edge Day Spa is a day spa with physician oversight and offices in Tarboro and Hampstead, North Carolina. Much of its menu is aesthetic, including Botox, Sculptra, HydraFacial, rosacea laser treatment and laser tattoo removal. Its medical services cover concierge medicine, weight management, hormone replacement therapy, sermorelin peptide therapy and IV infusion therapy.

Dr. Brent Chafin, MD, founded the practice and has practiced full-time for over 24 years. Stacey Brausch, AGNP-BC, is the other person named as a prescriber. The medications named are sermorelin, in injection or oral form, and Botox. Its Google listing shows a rating of 5 from 11 reviews.

This listing is for its Tarboro office at 204 E Church Street.

What does it cost?

It takes cash only and does not accept insurance. Concierge medicine is $1,560 a year or $130 a month on autopay. Hormone plans are $1,775 for six months or $3,260 for twelve months for women, and $1,695 for six months or $3,400 for twelve months for men. Sermorelin injection is $1,350 for six months or $2,700 for twelve, or $225 a month on autopay. Sermorelin oral is $800 for six months, $1,600 for twelve, or $135 a month on autopay.

Botox is $5 a unit, Sculptra is $475 a syringe, and PRP is $400 per injection. The weight management program lists an initial consultation at $25, with tiered pricing based on units. It does not publish a consult fee for hormone therapy, and it does not say whether plan prices include medication. Care Credit financing is offered. In its own words: "All sales on services and prepaid packages are final." It does not offer refunds for services already rendered.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask whether the plan prices include the hormone or sermorelin medication, and what it costs if they do not. Its hormone information mentions hormone pellets and other formulations, so ask which form you would receive and whether it is compounded or brand-name. Ask which prescriber would write each prescription, because the weight management program names no medication and no prescriber.

Its peptide information says "Peptides are not FDA approved for general use," and it describes its peptides as intended for research and educational purposes only. Ask what that means for the sermorelin you would receive, and whether MOTS-c or BPC-157 would be offered to you. Ask what lab work and follow-up visits cost, since lab testing is recommended before starting hormone therapy. Ask whether telehealth is available, since it does not say. Ask for the Hampstead street address, which its listing does not give, and for its hours, which it does not list. Finally, ask how to stop an autopay plan partway through, given that prepaid packages are final.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want physician-overseen hormone or sermorelin plans, can pay cash on a plan with final sales, and want the medication, the prescriber and the cancellation terms confirmed in writing before you pay. It may not suit you if your main goal is weight-loss medication, since none is named, or if you need posted hours or telehealth, which it does not publish.
