About Hummingbird Holistic Healthcare
What is Hummingbird Holistic Healthcare?
Hummingbird Holistic Healthcare is an integrative and functional medicine practice in Waltham, Massachusetts, at 564 Main St. It is not a weight loss clinic that happens to treat hormones. It is a broader holistic family practice whose services include allergy treatments, IV therapy, gut health testing, shamanic reiki, work with PANS/PANDAS and autism spectrum conditions in children, and bioidentical hormone replacement with thyroid balancing. The hormone and thyroid work includes both compounded and regular prescription formulations, along with options such as desiccated thyroid, T3, and low dose naltrexone (LDN) for conditions like Hashimoto's.
Three prescribers see patients: Carolyn Gillespie, NP, who has worked in women's health for over 25 years with a stated interest in thyroid imbalances and menopause; Beth Galan, NP, who has practiced as a nurse practitioner for the last 13 years with training in adrenal and thyroid disorders and hormonal imbalance; and Erich Goetzel, MD, MA, LAc, a physician and licensed acupuncturist whose own described focus is psychiatric and cognitive conditions rather than hormone therapy. Visits are available by telehealth as well as in person.
What does it cost?
A new patient consultation is $525. Follow-up visits are billed by length and complexity: an extended visit (about 45 to 60 minutes) is $380, a full follow-up (about 30 to 45 minutes) is $295, a less complex follow-up is $255, and a brief follow-up under 15 minutes is $195. Reiki sessions are priced separately, $195 for a new patient and $135 for established patients. None of these published fees are specific to hormone therapy, and no price is given for the hormone medications themselves, compounded or otherwise.
The practice is cash-pay. In its own words: "We require payment at the time of service and are out-of-network with insurance." It will provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement, but does not guarantee reimbursement, and its practitioners have opted out of Medicare entirely, so superbills cannot go to Medicare.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask what a hormone consultation and ongoing monitoring will cost beyond the general visit fees, since no hormone-specific price is listed. Ask whether the medication itself, compounded or brand-name, is billed separately and where it's filled. Ask which of the three prescribers you'd actually see for hormone or thyroid care, since their stated areas of focus differ. Ask what standard labs are covered by insurance versus what specialty testing costs out of pocket, since the practice says this varies.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you're looking for a holistic, root-cause-oriented practice that treats hormone and thyroid imbalance as one part of a wider integrative approach, rather than a clinic built solely around hormone therapy or weight loss. It's a less obvious fit if you want a dedicated hormone specialist or a clear published price for the hormone treatment itself before you book a consultation.
