About Higher Ground Women’s Health

What is Higher Ground Women’s Health?

Higher Ground Women’s Health is a women’s health practice at 66 Leighton Rd in Falmouth, Maine. Its main work is OB/GYN care, and Dr. Lisa Parsons, DO, is the only prescriber the clinic names. The clinic describes her as board-certified. It says she graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2001 and completed her residency at Maine Medical Center in 2005. Google shows a 5 rating from 25 reviews.

Hormonal management for menopause and perimenopause is one of its services. The others include contraception (with IUD and Nexplanon insertion and removal), infertility care, postpartum support, pelvic floor and incontinence care, outpatient surgery, sexual health, and wellness visits. Sound healing sessions are part of its membership. Telehealth appointments are offered. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and visits are by appointment only.

In its own words: "to have a practice based on the care of the patient, independent of insurance companies."

What does it cost?

The membership is $175 a month, plus a $175 enrollment fee, with a 1-year minimum commitment. Restarting a lapsed membership carries a $300 reinstatement fee. The membership covers office visits, 40% off office procedures, same-day or next-day appointments when possible, and one sound healing session a month, with extra sessions at $50 each. The clinic’s menopause material says the monthly fee also includes an annual well-woman exam, wholesale medications such as hormonal management therapies, and wholesale lab testing. The membership description does not mention medication, so confirm that before you pay.

Packages are priced separately. The hormone package is $1,500 over 3 months and includes 2 office visits, Dutch testing, and hormone prescriptions, including compounded ones when appropriate. The blood panel is not included. The Gut Health Reset is $1,800 over 6 months and includes 2 office visits and GI Map testing.

It does not publish a price for hormone therapy alone. It does not state a consultation fee, though it offers a free discovery call. The practice is cash pay. Listed payment methods are Visa, Discover, MasterCard, American Express, cash, debit card, and check with valid ID.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask whether the $175 monthly fee covers the prescription itself, and what "wholesale" means in dollars for medication and lab work. Ask whether hormone prescriptions are brand-name or compounded, and who fills them. Ask who signs the prescription and who covers when Dr. Parsons is away. Ask whether the $175 enrollment fee is also the charge for your first visit, and what the blood panel costs for the hormone package. If you live outside Maine, ask which states Dr. Parsons can see you in by telehealth. Ask what it costs to leave before the year is up, beyond the reinstatement fee. Finally, ask whether they accept HSA cards and whether they give receipts you could submit to insurance yourself, since neither is mentioned.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want one physician for gynecologic and hormone care, can pay cash for a monthly membership with a 1-year commitment, and want regular access to the same doctor by phone, email, or telehealth. It is a weaker fit if you are looking for weight loss, peptide, or longevity medicine, which it does not offer.
