About PrimeLife

What is PrimeLife?

PrimeLife is an integrative and functional medicine clinic at 2605 Northridge Parkway in Ames, Iowa. Hormone care is its main focus. The clinic describes bio-identical hormone replacement therapy given through pellet implants, and it names one pellet product, Simpatra®. Its other hormone services include Hormone Optimization, Testosterone Optimization and Hormone Replacement Therapy, with separate sections for women and men.

Two prescribers are listed: Melanie L. Spencer, MSPAS, PA-C, and Emily Goldsberry, ARNP. The clinic also offers IV Therapy, Shockwave Therapy, the O-Shot and P-Shot, and several aesthetic treatments, including Morpheus8 and Vampire Facelift®. A Detox & Weight Loss page describes a Metabolic Reset Program. The clinic does not name a GLP-1 or other weight-loss medication. Google lists it as an alternative medicine practitioner, with a 4.9 rating from 34 reviews.

PrimeLife is not in-network with any insurance plan. Follow-up visits can be done by phone or secure video after the first visit, if you choose. If you live outside Iowa, your first medical visit must be in person.

What does it cost?

PrimeLife does not publish prices, so you will need to ask for a quote for each service. Its first step is a free discovery call, which the clinic uses to decide whether working together is the right next step for you. It does not say whether the first in-person visit carries a separate fee.

The clinic does not bill insurance companies. Services outside its episode of care fee are billed to you directly. Lab tests and prescriptions may be covered by your own plan, depending on its rules. It does not say whether medication is included in its fees.

Cancellations made within 24 hours may result in a $50 charge to the card on file. A missed appointment without notice carries a $100 charge, and a deposit is required to book the next visit.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask which prescriber will write your prescription and who you will see for follow-up visits. Ask whether any fee covers the pellets or other medication, and what it costs if it does not. Ask whether Simpatra® is the only hormone product the clinic uses, and whether any of your treatment is compounded, since the clinic does not say. Ask what follow-up visits and lab work cost, and which lab is used. Ask whether the clinic will provide a billing summary you can submit to your insurance. No hours are listed, so ask when the office is open and how you reach staff. Finally, ask whether the 24-hour cancellation policy applies to phone and video visits as well as in-person ones.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you live in Iowa or can make an in-person first visit, you want hormone care paid entirely out of pocket, and you are comfortable with cash prices and firm cancellation fees. It is not a fit if you need same-day, emergency or weekend care. In its own words: "We are available for specialty medical care only. We do not replace your primary care physician."
