About Health Link Medical Group

What is Health Link Medical Group?

Health Link Medical Group is an integrated medical and wellness practice at 2125 S. El Camino Real, Suite 204, in Oceanside, California. It serves patients from across the metro San Diego region, and hormone therapy is its main focus. Its listed services are VIP Membership, primary care, laser therapy, hormone replacement therapy, menopause care, andropause care and aesthetics. It is open Monday through Thursday, 10AM to 6:30PM, by appointment only, and closed Friday through Sunday. It has a 5-star rating from 17 Google reviews.

Hormone therapy here is delivered as pellets placed under the skin in a short procedure in the office. The medications named are testosterone and estradiol, in SottoPelle pellets, which the practice describes as bioidentical and made at an FDA-regulated 503B facility. Two people are listed as prescribers: Jacob Flores, MD, the founder and medical director, and Dianne Ocan, FNP. In its own words: "Our method delivers the right kind of hormones, in individualized amounts that are adjusted by our doctors as your body's needs change, using a delivery method that releases a natural amount of hormones as your body needs it."

What does it cost?

It does not publish a price for hormone therapy, pellets, insertion or a consultation. It also does not say whether insurance is accepted. The only prices it publishes are for memberships, each good for one year from the date of purchase: Silver $479, Gold $549, Platinum $698 and Diamond $798. Membership prices cover aesthetics and perks, not hormone therapy itself. The hormone benefits are two free pellets a year, listed beside a $90 figure that is not explained, and 5% to 20% off hormone labs depending on the tier. The terms say there are no refunds, membership is sold separately from other purchases, and free treatments do not roll over. Nothing says whether a membership price includes medication.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask who signs your pellet prescription and who will see you, Dr. Flores or Dianne Ocan, FNP. Ask whether the pellets are compounded and which 503B facility makes them. The practice's own FAQ tells patients to ask that question. Ask whether the membership fee includes the pellets, and what the consultation, insertion, follow-up visits and hormone labs cost when you pay outside a membership. Ask how often pellets are reinserted and what each reinsertion costs. Ask whether follow-up can be done by video, since that is not stated, and whether insurance is accepted. Ask what happens to unused free pellets at the end of the year, and how to cancel a membership.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want testosterone or estradiol delivered as pellets inserted in the office, can get to Oceanside on a weekday during business hours, and are ready to pay cash with prices confirmed in writing before you book. It is a poor match if you are looking for weight loss or peptide care, which its services do not include.
