What is LAC Medical?
LAC Medical is a primary care practice at 5300 Lennox Avenue, Suite 105, in Bakersfield, California. Its main business is adult primary care, including Medicare wellness visits, chronic care, sick visits and in-office labs. Menopause and hormone therapy are offered inside that practice under the name LAC Women's Health.
Dr. Peyman Sarrafian, MD, a family practice physician, leads LAC Women's Health and its hormone therapy program. Rocio Argueta, NP, is the nurse practitioner most patients see. The hormone medications named are estradiol and progesterone, in forms such as patches, gels and oral progestogen. The practice has Spanish-speaking staff, is open Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and has a Google rating of 5 from 6 reviews.
In its own words: "Menopause is part of primary care. We treat it that way."
What does it cost?
It does not publish prices. Visits are billed at standard primary care office rates. There is no separate menopause clinic fee, no membership and no concierge add-on. It accepts Medicare Part B, Qualcare HMO, DHMN HMO and the major commercial plans, but not Medi-Cal or Kern Family Health Care. Hormone prescriptions vary by plan and pharmacy, and the clinic prefers generics when they are available. It does not say whether the medication is included in any fee, or whether hormone therapy visits are billed separately from other visits.
What should you ask before you book?
Start with coverage. Call before you schedule. The front desk confirms coverage and can tell you your out-of-pocket cost if the clinic is out of network. Then ask whether follow-up visits and lab work are billed separately, and what your prescription will cost at your pharmacy.
Ask who signs the prescription and who handles follow-up. Ask whether any of your medications are compounded. In its own words: "We do not prescribe compounded pellets." Still, confirm what it does prescribe. Ask whether follow-up can be done by video, since it does not describe video visits. Finally, the clinic shares common ownership with VipMD Cardiology and CICRS and says patients are free to choose any provider. If you want a cardiologist outside that group, ask about it at the start.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want menopause or hormone therapy handled inside regular primary care, want Spanish-speaking staff, and have one of the listed plans. It is a weaker match if you are looking for weight loss medication, peptide or longevity care, which the clinic does not list, or if you have Medi-Cal, which it does not accept.
